New historical fiction book.
I love the way Allende tells a story - making the political very personal. This isn‘t one of my favourites of hers. While I was riveted by the civil war scenes, the story ended abruptly. It felt unsatisfying.
I was on such a good streak reconnecting with Allende‘s writing in recent years, but this story was not a favorite. I felt it dragged on, I didn‘t feel a connection with any of the characters, and just found the overall story underwhelming.
I did not DNF‘d this out of loyalty to Allende, but it did take me almost 3 months to finish it. Overall, I‘m glad I read it, and hoping I have a better experience with her next book.

Not a favorite. The Chilean civil war was interesting; the rest not so much.

I love these quiet stolen reading hours of early Sunday mornings.
When an Isabel Allende novel comes out, I don‘t even need to read the synopsis, I‘m ordering it immediately.
1. I just ordered the latest from my favorite author today (tagged).
2. I do enjoy reviewing books. I use Litsy mostly, occasionally I post reviews on IG, and I‘ll post reviews for career-related books on LinkedIn. I also write reviews (among other things) in a reading journal, but those are just for me.
