Love and Other Conspiracies
Love and Other Conspiracies | Mallory Marlowe

The hardest thing for a paranormal conspiracy theorist and a web series producer to believe in is finding love in this swoony debut romantic comedy. Hallie Barrett's life has imploded after she's dumped by her hotshot ex, who also happens to be her coworker and the star of the online series she was producing. Without a new show to present for the company competition, shell be out of a job. But inspiration can come from the strangest places . . . like the most handsome guy shes ever seen passionately discussing Bigfoot on a late-night docuseries. Hayden Hargrove made a name for himself as a cryptid expert on his hit podcast, and is intrigued by the plucky, blue-haired producer who offers him the opportunity to lead his own web show. When the production team sees that Haydens solo on-screen presence is bad enough to make a ghost blanch, Hallie jumps on camera too, hitting him (and his cryptids) with a healthy dose of skepticismand enough chemistry to electrify their show to the top of the competition. As Hayden and Hallie investigate the unknown, they unearth feelings for each other that shake their beliefs to the core. In their search for Mothman, aliens, and the truth, the most elusive discovery might just be learning to love again.

Listen, not every book needs to be as big a pervert as I am, but this sex scene (which avoided both directly referring to, or even alluding to, genitals) was real... weird.

willaful I started reading romance in the era of throbbing manhoods so I actually appreciated authors who did that. 😂 2mo
khooliha @willaful yeah, some classic historical florid prose wouldn't fit the book, though it would have been very funny 2mo

A fun premise with an average execution. I appreciate the sensitive topics that the story puts “out there” (emotional abuse, gaslighting, the loneliness the comes with being a caretaker — especially at a young age when caring for an ill or dying parent). The writing, however, is repetitive and lacks subtlety & finesse, e.g. “He pulls me into a kiss. It‘s slow and long-awaited…and tastes of tongue.” WHAT. No, thank you.👇🏻

monalyisha 1/1: And did you know that blue hair = quirky? How many times would you like to be reminded? Think of an appropriate amount…and then double it. I am unlikely to go hunting for another of Marlowe‘s books but I‘m glad she tried something thematically different. 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures This is too bad! She has a new one coming out centered on UFO hunting or something, it sounded fun but we I don't want to think about the taste of someone's tongue 😂 2mo
monalyisha @ChaoticMissAdventures Yes! There was an excerpt at the end of this book, which I read because I‘m nothing if not a completionist. 😅 2mo
AlaMich Hate repetition! I‘ve been reading Mistborn and Brandon Sanderson loooves to make his characters FROWN. Pick another verb!! (edited) 2mo
monalyisha @AlaMich Me too. It‘s a definite pet peeve — and one that I have reason to complain about all too often! 2mo

This book was so adorable! It had the perfect amount of conflict, heat and slow-burn romance. I really enjoyed the banter between Hallie and Hayden.

Love it when the book I‘m reading subtly brings in a reference to just my favorite video game series of all time! I see you Mallory Marlowe. I see you and totally feel you 😂

My X-files loving heart LOVED this book. This will be a must read author for me. Her debut was awesome and covered my love of Cryptids, Mulder and Scully and of course romance. Swoon. A book #2 is coming and it‘s not fast enough.
