This Young Adult Historical Fiction Coretta Scott King Award winning book is about a young slave girl‘s story of taken from her village in Africa sold into slavery and her new life in the Americas. Despite her hardships of being stripped of humanity it seems, she still keeps hope in her heart and finds herself. Great for older students for IR and SR.

Copper Sun is a HF novel that talks about the horrors of slavery in glimpses through the story of a young girl named Amari whose village was invaded by slave traders. I had to read this book in high school as an assignment and it‘s become one of my top books ever since. It is also a CSK award winner. This story is definitely a great story for an LC or an IR. #UCFLAE3414SU19

So much to this book. So, so much. This is a slave narrative (fictional but well-researched and based on factual information) written for a YA audience. It is a well-deserved award winner full of details and emotion and violence. Books like these are so important to read and yet I can‘t help but have feelings of shame about America‘s past. However, the end is uplifting and filled with hope and freedom.

This is a great young adult novel. The story is told from two different perspectives. The first is Amari, a 15 year old girl who was taken from her village in Africa. The second is a 15 year old indentured girl named Polly. Both girls end up being purchased at the same time to the same family. Another aspect that intrigued me was the girls didn't try to escape north. Instead, they went south to Ft Mose, Florida. It's hard to read but worth it.

Headphones and audiobooks are essential when you are on day 532 of being home with the kids due to illness and bad weather. Everyone has been sent to their rooms for fighting and the audiobook is now drowning out the middle child playing her recorder extremely loud on purpose to annoy everyone. #readyforspring #needwine

This is 100% a book I would recommend to all upper middle and/or high school teachers for their students. While it deals with the heavy topic of slavery, it talks of fairness, hope, and new beginnings.

I made a promise to review all books I have finished. This was a #recommendation from my #librarian. It was also emotional and raw. The story of a girl stolen from her homeland, sold into the abysmal toil of slavery, and forced to endure the injustice and pain of her position. But it is uplifting, too. Because it tells the story of friendship and courage. A fast read, I finished it in a day. Highly recommended. #LRC13 (Based on true events)

What a gorgeous and heart-wrenching story. This historical novel is set during the colonization of America. Amari is stolen from her home in Africa to become a slave. Polly is a white indentured servant who has lost her parents. The two young girls end up living together on a South Carolina plantation and sharing dreams of escape.

I haven't been posting regularly on the photo challenge, but I'm reading a book with an #orangecover right now, and I am loving it.
