Clash!: How to Thrive in a Multicultural World
Clash!: How to Thrive in a Multicultural World | Hazel Rose Markus, Alana Conner
9 posts | 3 read | 12 to read
If you fear that cultural, political, and class differences are tearing America apart, read this important book. Jonathan Haidt, Ph.D., author of "The Righteous Mind" "Who will rule in the twenty-first century: allegedly more disciplined Asians, or allegedly more creative Westerners? Can women rocket up the corporate ladder without knocking off the men? How can poor kids get ahead when schools favor the rich?"As our planet gets smaller, cultural conflicts are becoming fiercer. Rather than lamenting our multicultural worlds, Hazel Rose Markus and Alana Conner reveal how we can leverage our differences to mend the rifts in our workplaces, schools, and relationships, as well as on the global stage.Provocative, witty, and painstakingly researched, "Clash!" not only explains who we are, it also envisions who we could become."

#TBRtemptation post 8! A provocative and heavily researched book, the authors explain how cultural diversity can make things better in our new century. Disciplined Asians vs. creative Westerners, corporate women vs. men, the poor vs. the rich in education, etc, etc., are dichotomies that don't have to be at odds. As the planet grows "smaller", culture clashes increase. But why clashes rather than partnerships? #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

rwmg The trouble with books like this is that those who most need to read them won't 7y

Mehso-so

Not a fan. Too simplistic in its conclusions and suggestions. Too many cheesy lines. But, I'll keep using it for class because it annoys my students, and makes them think through the issues enough to argue against the book.

Nebklvr So naughty. Annoying students...could it be considered cruelty? 8y
Wannabe_Quijote @Nebklvr Ha! I meant the book's arguments annoy them! 8y

Class reading. Only read the intro and I'm already having major arguments with the book.
