The beginning is mildly amusing but after about the half-way mark as we get closer to the author's own day the premise is abandoned and the book more and more blatantly refers to contemporary French politics,

Last book haul from Riverby Books until August when the daughter returns to school. I have no idea what Penguin Island is about, but how can one resist a book with a title like that?

We stopped off in Sedbergh, Cumbria. It's a lovely little village with tons of bookshops. This is Westwood Books, one of the bigger ones. Over 70000 titles apparently. We could've spent all day in there!
