Echo of Old Books
Echo of Old Books | Barbara Davis
10 posts | 5 read | 20 to read
A novel about the magical lure of books and summoning the courage to rewrite our stories by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of The Keeper of Happy Endings and The Last of the Moon Girls.Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer's affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books' previous owners--an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance. With no trace of how these mysterious books came into the world, Ashlyn is caught up in a decades-old literary mystery, beckoned by two hearts in ruins, whoever they were, wherever they are. Determined to learn the truth behind the doomed lovers' tale, she reads on, following a trail of broken promises and seemingly unforgivable betrayals. The more Ashlyn learns about Hemi and Belle, the nearer she comes to bringing closure to their love story--and to the unfinished chapters of her own life.

This book reminded me of a fairy tale. There was a bit of magic, and a touch of love. Some of the characters were kind, and some were evil. It was two stories that came together to make one. It may or may not have ended happily ever after (no spoilers!). As an added plus, this book was about books. Want kind of a reader wouldn‘t love that! I am glad I selected this book from Amazon‘s First Reads.

Attention all bibliophiles! 🤓 I was drawn in by the beautiful cover and the premise of doomed love and the dual timelines of 1941 and 1984. Ashlyn, who restores old books in her inherited bookstore in 1984, can feel the emotions of the previous owners when she touches a book. She stumbles on 2 old books that appear never to have been published, his and hers stories about a doomed love affair in 1941. She soon becomes absorbed in their stories ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 And sets out to learn more via the man who donated them, Ethan. I don‘t want to give away anything else but all book lovers should read this book! It‘s available on kindle unlimited and I listened to the #audiobook with 3 excellent narrators. 5⭐️ Highly recommended! #bibliophile #historicalfiction #WWII #kindleunlimited 13mo

The Echo of Old Books by Barbara Davis. I wish this advanced digital copy showed a picture of the cover, it's what 1st drew me to this book! Ashlyn owns a rare bookstore and through another friend she discovers a pair of beautifully bound books that seem to be connected but appear to never have been published. Her gift of psychometry compels her to pursue the books origins and leads her on a journey of discovery. Along this (cont in comments)...

TheHeartlandBookFairy journey she will discover new friends, a new love, a new family. She will overcome and heal past hurts while helping her new family to do the same. I love the premise of this book but I'll be honest, It took me a while to really get into it. A word of advice, stick with it! I found this book interesting and compelling enough to keep reading but I had not yet reached the point where I couldn't wait to get back to it. A little over 1/3 of the way in, I suddenly couldn't put it down. And when I had to, I found I could not wait to get back to it. I absolutely love the way the story all came the way the book ended, and the epilog. A fabulously unique story. 13mo

I really liked the premise of this book, but the title is misleading because this about two specific books. I‘d have loved it more if there were many books that spoke to Ashlyn. The story of Belle and Hemi is intriguing, and I enjoyed it. Dual timelines, the gift of psychometry, and a horrid villain made for a great read. Book #23 2023

BOOKS ABOUT BOOKS - HISTORICAL FICTION - MYSTERY

Finding books that have no author had Ashlyn on a mission to find out who had written these treasures about a love story gone wrong.

THE ECHO OF OLD BOOKS has the imaginative, descriptive, pull-you-in writing style Ms. Davis excels at.

You will be in for a treat...don't miss it.
