I didn‘t like the second volume of “Fruits Basket” as much as I did the first, however this was still a decent read that delved a little more into the characters, and hints at darker themes in the future.

I‘m always surprised by how surprisingly deep this series can get while remaining fluffy, hopeful, and funny. Yuki‘s background is touched on and it‘s clearly unpleasant. There are new members of the zodiac revealed. Tohru remains her kind, steadfast self.

This manga gets really dark and a bit confusing with gender roles but I‘ve done a bit of googling so I can better understand just what is going on. Volume two gets into Yuki‘s childhood (horrible) and Kyo and Yuki‘s feelings for Tohru (confused). It‘s definitely pulled me in.

monalyisha When I was little, a friend dared me to dip my Wendy‘s food in my Frosty & eat it...& I inexplicably loved it. 😆 I now acknowledge that everything about this is gross (including Wendy‘s/fast food, in general), but I‘ll still drunkenly dunk some chicken nugs & fries in a chocolate shake every now & then. 🙈 7y

🐄 We gain some insight into Yuki‘s past, which was intriguing & slightly sad.
🐄 The development of friendship between many people is steady & delightfully written.
🐄 Tohru is a lovely, likeable protagonist.
🐄 Illustrations are still beautiful.
🐄 The humour can feel slightly over-the-top, yet I‘m finding it quite pleasant.
🐄 No insta love & the flirting‘s a riot.
🐄 4.5/5.
