This is #theoldestbookiown, a copy of Spenser‘s Fairie Queene with an inscription from 1889. There is nothing I love more than rummaging through second hand bookshops, looking for gems old and new.

Cathythoughts And it looks like this book is being well taken care of ❤️almost wrapped up in cotton wool. 💕 (edited) 2y

1246 pages.
In crazy-ass 'English'.
I still remember the ways I had to sequester myself to get this done in college and the tricks used to fool myself into meeting the daily page quota.
It was one of the most difficult things ever.
And yet I finished it.
I finished this barely understandable monstrosity.
And yet I could not finish Anna Karenina. 🤣😂🤣

Centique I managed Anna Karenina (many yrs ago and before children) but I think this one would beat me senseless! 😳😂 Well done you! 3y
annahenke Oh gosh, I remember this from medieval lit. Crazy! 3y
PrincessLibrarian Your description reminds me so much of reading it in college 😂😂😂 what a struggle. 3y

Sharanya Ahhhh good times. My senior thesis was on Faerie Queene and another Indian epic. So many memories lugging my copy around with me everywhere. 3y
[DELETED] 1409720085 Oh wow, what a beast. 3y
Libby1 Well done! I‘ve read the first two parts so far and kind of loved them in a weird way. 2y

Oh my, what have I gotten myself into.. I've worked out that if I read it aloud, I can mostly make sense of it.. And people complain about the English language changing now.. I think it's already changed people! Keep up! 😂 #serialreader

Haven't gotten very far for the #BookishOlympics because I've been distracted by the actual #olympics (I cannot miss gymnastics!) I've only read ONE book so far 😅 Whoops.
