Another stunning novel. Impressively complex character development that is interwoven with the magical roots of the world.

A bit late to the party starting my #2023readingbracket, but here it is! A bit of an eclectic group going so far, with one sci-fi, one YA fantasy, and the upcoming Jesmyn Ward. For March technically my favorite read goes to The Bone Houses since it was my only 5 star, but it was a reread and I don‘t count those so the spot goes to my next favorite, The Drowned Woods, which was a 4.5.
🎧📚 From the author of The Bone Houses.
A heisty quick-paced dark fairy tale. LGBTQ+ representation, dark fantasy with a touch of romance.
Mer is the last living water diviner, spy & thief. She‘s on the run from a prince who bound her to his service (by branding her face). He used her to find the wells of his enemies & poisoned them without her knowledge. When she found out she escaped.

What a pleasant surprise! I loved the motley crew coming together, the Welsh mythology, the casual bisexuality, the double-crossing, and most especially Trefor. So basically all of it. I loved all of it. #yafantasy
This was a very unique story. I liked the Welsh mythology and the interesting use of magic. I just don't think the characters were as developed as they could have been but I'll still be curious to see what this author comes up with next.

I don't know...somehow most of the characters' motivations and priorities didn't make much sense to me. The evil ruler is just evil, no story here.
I was also seriously annoyed at the stereotype scholar who is somehow an expert and at the same time too stupid to leave his books behind when his life is in danger.
I keep waiting for a Hermione-like characters and instead being educated is too often portrayed as flawed, annoying and useless🙄
I would listen to Moira Quirk read the phone book, she's such a phenomenal performer! This was an enjoyable story. Part fantasy magic, part heist story, part light political drama... with a corgi who might (or might not) be a spy for the fae. I really appreciated that the romance was very subtle and that it was a solid standalone novel (though I'd totally read a spin off novel following the reformation of the Thieves Guild).
I really enjoyed this fantasy story set in the Kingdoms of Wales. It has water magic, secrets, with Welsh legends.
Another book from Owl Crate and another pick! Happy I signed up for it. Part romance, part myth, and part heist - the last Water Diviner and her mentor create a ragtag team to fell the cruel king who once employed them. Some of the names were not easy - it‘s based on a Welsh tale, after all - but that didn‘t take away my enjoyment of the story!
Do you ever read a name in a book and you don‘t know how to pronounce it so you just mumble?? 😂 This story is based on a Welsh folktale, so some names are a little hard, but it‘s not stopping me from loving the book so far!
I meant to only check out the first chapter… but somehow I‘m already almost 100 pages in. I‘m enjoying this YA fantasy so far 😅📖 #currentread
I have 2 Illumicrate boxes on my porch this morning. Book one …
Reversible jacket, foil on the hardcover, stenciled water like graphic edges, signed.
I forgot to skip July so I hope this is a good story. Has anyone read it?
