A thrilling race against the clock to save the world from fantasy creatures from a cult 80s film. Perfect for fans of Henson Company puppet classics like Labyrinth, Dark Crystal and The Never-Ending Story. Jack Corman is failing at life. Jobless, jaded and on the wrong side of thirty, hes facing the threat of eviction from his London flat while reeling from the sudden death of his father, one-time film director Bob Corman. Back in the eighties, Bob poured his heart and soul into the creation of his 1986 puppet fantasy The Shadow Glass, a film Jack loved as a child, idolising its fox-like hero Dune. But The Shadow Glass flopped on release, deemed too scary for kids and too weird for adults, and Bob became a laughing stock, losing himself to booze and self-pity. Now, the film represents everything Jack hated about his father, and he lives with the fear that hell end up a failure just like him. In the wake of Bobs death, Jack returns to his decaying home, a place creaking with movie memorabilia and painful memories. Then, during a freak thunderstorm, the puppets in the attic start talking. Tipped into a desperate real-world quest to save London from the more nefarious of his fathers creations, Jack teams up with excitable fanboy Toby and spiky studio executive Amelia to navigate the labyrinth of his fathers legacy while conjuring the hero withinand igniting a Shadow Glass resurgence that could, finally, do his father proud.

I love Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, Neverending Story and Willow and Lady Hawk, all the fantasy movies that I could get my hands on as a kid.

In The Shadow Glass, one of these fantasy movie worlds starts to come to life. Living puppets, an evil sorceress, cute little animal creatures, and of course, a quest. It was a really fun read, but I didn‘t love it as much as I thought I would. Still a pick, but didn‘t blow me away.

Being an 80's kid I have high hopes for this one. The embedded cover sticker tie in to the movie (in the story) is a great detail.

Holly, you‘ve spoiled me again! Thank you for the books, (the tagged was one of my most wished for, so I‘ll likely read it first!) and the Hawaiian goodies. The soap smells great, so citrusy. The bag is a great size to keep in my purse for bookstore trips 😁. And the succulent bookmarks are cute (I can look past the strange sayings 🤣.) I hope you‘re having a happy day 🎄💜.

Soubhiville I keep hearing such good reviews about Horrorstor too, for years now, I‘m excited to experience it and probably scare myself silly. 🤣 1y
Hooked_on_books You‘re so welcome! I loved Horrorstor. It‘s such a fun book and got me completely hooked on Hendrix, who I just love. Enjoy it all and Merry Christmas! 1y

An homage to Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, and all things Jim Henson. A director from the 80s dies, leaving it up to his son to deal with cleaning out his office and attic with his treasured props. As Jack grapples with his less-than-steller relationship with his now dead father, the puppets come alive and adventure ensues.

Definitely one for fans of 80s culture!

I really need to stop doing this. I came in for *one* book -- and these are the books I found on my way to that one book!

An homage to film's like The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. A failed cult director leaves a legacy to his son which turns out to be a puppet themed fantasy movie where the two worlds of fantasy and reality collide. Now it's up to him to prevent these characters from entering our world in this magical adventure that pays tribute to 80's pop culture.

🎧 I loved this book! I hope someone does a special edition of it. My last book for #sharreadathon!

It‘s reminiscent of The Dark Crystal or The NeverEnding Story or Labyrinth. Like an 80‘s vibe movie. There‘s some pop culture that cracked me up.

Bob Cormac created a movie with puppets that flopped, they came to life after he died to save the world. I know, right?!

It deals with coming of age, coming to terms, fandom, a quest, etc

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
