“You and me aren‘t like other people, Pops had said one time when I was frustrated by yet another confusion over an interaction with somebody. Hearing him say it was both harsh and a relief. I knew he was right. Still is. There‘s something about my timing….human interaction is often like a dance I can‘t catch the rhythm to.”
I‘m loving this book so far, sarcastic, blunt, dry, sardonic, witty. As someone with autism I wholly relate to this quote.

I tried. I read the whole thing. Hated it. One of the many reasons being NO SPEECH MARKS! Why?!! Spent so much time & effort working out who was speaking or if it was speech or internal monologue and just why?!

paulfrankspencer Don't read Cormac McCarthy. 2y
readingjedi @paulfrankspencer It's funny you should say that because The Road is the only time I've encountered the zero punctuation trend and it actually seemed integral to the reading experience. This genre ... not so much 🤔 2y
shanaqui Arrghhh. I get that some people experiment with grammar and it works and is important, but mostly it doesn't work and doesn't fit, and I find it so frustrating! 2y

Well, I endured the heatwave, a reading slump & a week long bout of the morbs and now I'm back on top form! And it's the start of the summer holidays for me and my girl - no school/work for 6 weeks!!!

Next on my list is this one - not sure why I even have this as it's really Not My Thing. But I sometimes like to try stuff I initially reject on that fairly tenuous basis - even if it's just to confirm that, yes, this really is Not My Thing!

Freckles is about a girl trying to find the 5 people in her life who are the most influential and important to her.The book has poignant moments that tugged at my heartstrings,Freckles is also wanting to reconnect with her mother who abandoned her years ago.A heartwarming read about how we search outside of what's right in front of us for things/people to complete us without realising that what we are searching for can be what we already have. ⭐⭐⭐

When a stranger tells Allegra (aka Freckles) that she is the average of the five people she spends most of her time with, it makes her question her life. Does she even have five people? Her quirky father raised her alone. Her mother left when she was a child. She doesn‘t have many friends and has a mediocre job. Now, she‘s on a quest to find five people who will shape her and determine her future.

Treated myself to Cecilia Ahern's new book 'Freckles' so got some mint tea and a spiced Berry candle, and ready for a wild night reading! Very excited! 😁

This is a lovely story and Allegra is such an endearing and eccentric character. It‘s an uplifting and engaging tale of human vulnerabilities and friendships, how we must learn to be true to ourselves to experience inner happiness. Beautifully written with a sense of humour and a whole cast of entertaining peripheral characters as well as Allegra, Freckles is a joy to read. #Pigeonhole
