These Feathered Flames is a stunning debut as dark, lush, and captivating as the best fairy tales.Nina Varela, author of the Crier's War duology When twin heirs are born in Tourin, their fates are decided at a young age. While Izaveta remained at court to learn the skills shed need as the future queen, Asya was taken away to train with her aunt, the mysterious Firebird, who ensured magic remained balanced in the realm. But before Asyas training is completed, the ancient power blooms inside her, which can mean only one thing: the queen is dead, and a new ruler must be crowned. As the princesses come to understand everything their roles entail, theyll discover who they can trust, who they can loveand who killed their mother. Mehso-so

As Izaveta prepares to be crowned, her sister inherits the fabled power of the Firebird. & political intrigue filling the court means that their duties for the queendom may be incompatible with them rebuilding their relationship.

This was a pretty slow, but interesting read. Expansive world building, intriguing magic, & a difficult sister relationship. The pacing felt off, & the ending felt rushed, but I‘lol definitely look for book 2! 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Pickpick

I started this book feeling not entirely convinced but wow was I not able to stop reading once things picked up! It's a really interesting world of magic and payments, we follow two twin sisters who were separated when they were young, forced to start their training to do two opposing duties, one as the Firebird, feared and detested by all, the other as Queen, forced to manipulate all her relations. It's a story of healing, trusting, & betrayal

Update: I'm not a fan of the princess who is going to be queen, like wow I dislike her lol or perhaps it's the court machinations that she's so engrossed in that i very much dislike. Her sister tho, i like and ESPECIALLY after all the gay vibes like wow if she is this book just got 1000% more interesting 😆 😏 mystery, backstabbing, and flames, wonder how it'll work itself out

Next for #augustARC! This is also a much older title. I'm 16% in and it's ok. It involves an open crown, a mourning period, twins, and something about a firebird? I'm a bit confused, esp with how it started. Told from the twin's povs #fantasy @Clwojick

Clwojick I love books featuring twins! 2y
coffees @Clwojick i think this is the first time I've read a twins story? Or at least it's rare enough that i can't think of a previous one lol 2y
Clwojick These are some I‘ve enjoyed, I‘ll Give You the Sun, The Vanishing Half, Identical by Ellen Hopkins, Dawn Among the Sticks and Stones, The Switch. 2y
coffees @Clwojick oh! I remember identical, i really liked that one, I'll look up the others, i know the vanishing half way really popular but didn't know it was about twins 2y

Finished this yesterday. It didn't have the Russia feel I honestly picked it up for but it was a decent YA fantasy

It's a little TOO hot for me today; muggy and almost 90°. I'll be much happier when the temperature goes back down in a few days. Still enjoyed my lunchtime walk at the park though! Despite the heat it really is a magical time of year! 🌿💕📚

The Bookish Box subscription for April (which finally arrived!) is magnificent! The shirt is fun, I love the pillowcase and candle, the book sleeve features Casteel and Poppy from Jennifer Armentrout's Blood and Ash series, and the tagged book is a sapphic retelling of The Firebird! 😀📚💕 I only get this box twice a year now, so I'm glad everything is so fantastic! #bookmail #bookishbox

wanderinglynn Awesome box! 3y
