When a strange tear in the cosmos appears within Earth's annual path, the consequences are disastrous. For one night a year, the vast majority of humans now undergo a frightening mental change, transforming into hateful, rage-fueled zombies who will stop at nothing to satiate their desire for brutality. While not much is understood about this horrific mass hysteria, the demographic it effects is very specific: cisgender straight people. A few years after the first of these tragic events, four friends from across the queer spectrum look for safety in solitude, hunkering down in a remote desert cabin for what is now known as Saturation Day. With a vaccine available for straight people to curb their violent episodes, some predict the worst is over. Others aren't so sure. As night falls, it becomes clear that survival isn't guaranteed this Saturation Day. This is the first horror novella from two-time Hugo Award finalist Chuck Tingle.

4/5

One night a year, all the cis, straight people turn into violent zombies. This year, Isaac plans to hide out in a remote desert location to avoid the chaos.

I loved how quickly and effectively the world building happened with the scene with Isaac's elderly neighbor. The message at the end was a little heavy-handed, but overall it was a super fun horror with a message. It left me even more excited to read Camp Damascus when it comes out.

I wish it was a little more cleaned up edit wise, but it seems to have been more a cathartic, vent project in light of both queer and covid issues, enjoyable regardless.

#Bookmail is the best mail!

My #LMPBC book has returned to me, along with a bonus book and a fabulously creepy card. Thank you so much, Reggie! I‘ve been meaning to read Chuck Tingle forever (I am endlessly entertained by his twitter feed lol) and this novella is the perfect place to start. Idk where you got this card but it is on point!

Thank you again, my friend. ❤️

Bookzombie I love @Reggie ‘s cards! 2y

Reggie I first heard of this book on the Ghoulish podcast when the author was on. I had never heard of Chuck Tingle before. He has a voice that reminded me of Bobcat Goldthwaite. He had some really great things to say about horror and story writing and decided to give him a try. Totally worth it. Hope you like it, Jenni. (edited) 2y

This was brilliant. Earth has come into the orbit of a void in space called the Blank Space. During the 20 or so hours it takes for Earth to pass it by straight people turn into murderous zombies hellbent on killing queer people. The book starts at the 3rd year of this phenomena that happens once a year as Issac and 3 of his queer friends take off to a remote location in the desert where nothing will go right. This is only 83 pages but it‘s so👇🏼

Reggie smart. There‘s even a vaccine that will block what happens to straight people and guess what? There‘s a lot of people who don‘t care enough to take the vaccine. It‘s a book that hit a lot bells for me. Check it out. (edited) 3y
TrishB Stacked 👍🏻 expensive for a small book but I‘ll keep my eye out. 3y
Reggie @TrishB it‘s so good. It had a good combo of scares and laughs. 3y

Megabooks You read the most interesting books! They‘re not always a good fit for me, but I do love your reviews. 👍🏻💜 3y
Reggie @Megabooks it‘s been this year and going back to work that has pushed me into shorter horror stories. I need to get back to regular fiction but I‘m happy in this comfort zone right now. Thanks, though, Meg.❤️ 3y
Twainy REGGIE!! Tell me the 3 friends live!! Fine 😐 I‘ll go buy it & RIAFO. Thanks! 😁🤗 3y
Reggie @Twainy Lol you‘ll love it. It does get a touch preachy in the end but it was sooo good. 3y
Twainy I‘ll love it! I already bought it. Preaching? Bring it! After the last book I read I‘m prepared not to hate all humans or hug any dirty trees. Happy long weekend! 😁 3y
