The highly anticipated fifth novel in Rachel Reids Game Changers series sees a grumpy professional hockey player meet his match in an out-and-proud social media manager The hits just keep coming for Troy Barrett. Traded to the worst team in the league would be bad enough, but coming on the heels of a messy breakup and a recent scandal Troy just wants to play hockey and be left alone. He doesnt want to be in the news anymore, and he definitely doesnt want to work on his online presence with the teams peppy social media manager. Harris Drover can tell standoffish Troy isnt happy about the tradeanyone could tell, frankly, as he doesnt exactly hide it wellbut Harris doesnt give up on people easily. Even when hes developing a crush hes sure is one-sided. And when he sees Troys smile finally crack through his grumpy exterior, well Thats a man Harris couldnt turn his back on if he wanted to. Suddenly, Troys move to the new team feels like an opportunityfor Troy to embrace his true self, and for both men to surrender to their growing attraction. But indulging in each other behind closed doors is one thing, and for Troy, being in a public relationship with Harris will mean facing off with his fears, once and for all. Game Changers Book 1: Game Changer Book 2: Heated Rivalry Book 3: Tough Guy Book 4: Common Goal Book 5: Role Model

I‘m sad to report the last two novels I picked up didn‘t grip me. 😔 It ain‘t all bad, though, because they drove me to the last stop on my Rachel Reid Reread a teensy bit earlier than I expected.

I‘m so, so excited to sink back into ROLE MODEL. I‘m pretty sure it‘s my second fave (after HEATED RIVALRY, of course), and it deals with so much important stuff, and once I‘ve finished it I get to read my ARC of the sixth book. Hello, awesome day.

Finished another #NewYearWhoDis pick! I LOVED this romance. Honestly, this is why I love this yearly challenge, because it introduces me to books I would never have picked up on my own! I think I‘ve read more queer romances this month than I‘ve ever read and honestly, I think that‘s awesome.

I finished this one on Sunday. My last read for #JoyousJanuary

I‘m using this for #Booked2022 coming out story

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 2y
monalyisha Yay! 🎉🥰 2y
xicanti Hurray! I also highly recommend the rest of the series. They‘re all awesome, but my fave is 2y

CarolynM Love this series❤ I can't help thinking you would have enjoyed it more if you'd read Heated Rivalry first. @xicanti My favourite quote - Hayden: I'm so sick of this weird bulls**t 🤣🤣 Can't wait for the next one. 2y

Everything I want in a #romantsy - humour, heart and heat. Hockey is a plus too. Loved the cameos from the MCs of the earlier novels.

It‘s official: Rachel Reid is my favourite romance writer. Five books in and she keeps delivering on every front.

ROLE MODEL‘s got two excellent leads in Harris, a pure delight of a guy, and Troy, who‘s just started to dismantle the wall of toxic bullshit he‘s hidden behind his entire adult life. Reid nails their dynamic, especially with Troy‘s journey to punch up and live as his authentic self instead of the asshole dudebro he‘s always ⬇️

xicanti felt he has to be. There‘s a realistic mix of certainty, self-doubt, censure, and support as he speaks out against sexual assault and connects with this lovely guy. My heart ached.

But since it‘s Reid, there‘re also plenty of funny bits and sweet bits. There‘s a PUPPY. There‘re APPLES. There‘s TONS OF ILYA. My heart sang, too.

It had me all !!!!!! and 😭 and 😍 is what I‘m saying. I couldn‘t put it down and I miss it now it‘s over. 5 stars.

CarolynM Ilya! Yes, please. Shane too? 3y
xicanti @CarolynM there‘s only a teensy bit of Shane, but Ilya is Troy‘s team captain and their interactions are GOLD. 3y

Smoke from the wildfires has kept me inside for the past couple weeks, but I‘m really frickin tired of being indoors. I‘m gonna finish this book in nature, with my rainbow owl mask to help keep at least some of the smoke out of my throat.

DrexEdit Take care! The smoke bothers me some days to and I'm waaaaay east of any wildfires. Air quality is bad this year! 3y
CarolynM I love those Rachel Reid books, can't wait for this one. Hope the smoke clears soon. 3y
xicanti @DrexEdit for the first couple weeks, we only had to deal with smoke blowing in from BC. Then our own wildfires started along the Ontario border and the semi-clear days disappeared. 😔 3y
xicanti @CarolynM this one‘s absolutely fabulous. Reid hasn‘t disappointed me yet. 3y

I opened ROLE MODEL before bed last night just so‘s I could queue up chapter one for this morning. Next thing I knew, I was 30% in and I‘d only darkened my ereader‘s screen once, really briefly.

Rachel Reid‘s dangerous that way.

But seriously, y‘all: THIS BOOK. My heart aches for Troy. He‘s a remorseful jerk because he just doesn‘t know how else to relate to people, and I‘ve BEEN him, and I can‘t wait to see his emotional arc play out.
