Shaun of the Dead meets Dumplin' in this bitingly funny YA thriller about a kickass group of teens battling a ravenous group of zombies. In the next few hours, one of three things will happen. 1--We'll be rescued (unlikely) 2--We'll freeze to death (maybe) 3--We'll be eaten by thin and athletic zombies (odds: excellent) Vivian Ellenshaw is fat, but she knows she doesn't need to lose weight, so she's none too happy to find herself forced into a weight-loss camp's van with her ex-best friend, Allie, a meathead jock who can barely drive, and the camp owner's snobby son. And when they arrive at Camp Featherlite at the start of the worst blizzard in the history of Flagstaff, Arizona, it's clear that something isn't right. Vee barely has a chance to meet the other members of her pod, all who seem as unhappy to be at Featherlite as she does, when a camper goes missing down by the lake. Then she spots something horrifying outside in the snow. Something...that isn't human. Plus, the camp's supposed miracle cure for obesity just seems fishy, and Vee and her fellow campers know they don't need to be cured. Of anything. Even worse, it's not long before Camp Featherlite's luxurious bungalows are totally overrun with zombies. What starts out as a mission to unravel the camp's secrets turns into a desperate fight for survival--and not all of the Featherlite campers will make it out alive. A satirical blend of horror, body positivity, and humor, Kelly deVos's witty, biting novel proves that everyone deserves to feel validated, and taking down the evil enterprise determined to dehumanize you is a good place to start.

I didn‘t plan it this way but the read I just finished dovetails nicely with today‘s Photo Challenge - Zombies 🧟‍♀️ 😅

This book is YA but pulls zero punches - it‘s plenty gory, with great character development featuring teens that act like actual teens. Reads a bit like a horror film but I‘d lean more ‘Scream‘ rather than ‘Shaun of the Dead‘ in terms of humor. #Scarathlon #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall

FlynnDewey Kinda like how I was surprised the Fear Street movies went as hard as they did. 6mo

This was such a fun read!

It's a YA zombie story that takes place at a fat camp. The satire in the writing was perfect for the story. Great character building with kickass girls taking care of themselves made this one a much needed break from the domestic thrillers I've been reading.

I'm not quite sure I buy the idea of a fat camp happening over the winter holidays, because kids don't get that much time off of school, but strangely that was what I found to be unrealistic and not the idea that weight loss bars were turning kids into zombies. I'm pretty much ready for the zombie apocalypse, and I was definitely more prepared for that than I was for COVID-19.

I was not expecting this book to be like this. The last and only zombie book I‘ve ever read was more or less a comedy and the title gave away that they all (or close enough to all) survive (Girls Save the World in This One). But this one has me questioning who would live and die up until the very last pages of the story, despite the character archetypes and odds of survival listed at the beginning. The concept was stellar and I‘ve never seen ⬇️

Zoe-h ⬆️ anything like it*, but now I know that zombie books are something I need to hold out on. 5⭐️

*Five kids and one employee are at a fat camp where a pharmaceutical company is trying out a “cure” for obesity without giving the kids knowledge of all the side effects. Needless to say, I‘m sure based on the cover, it does not end well.

Listening to a zombie fat camp audiobook set during Christmas break. I‘m liking the cast of characters. Right now their stuck on a roof. And here is a picture of a local store and their Christmas display. One of my favorites. If you post holiday displays tag me so I can see! #litsylove

I ❤️ this cover and I might have already been partial to this book because one of the main characters, Vivian, is fat and confident. She isn‘t the best friend or the sidekick. She is a badass. This is a fun YA read told from multiple POVs (sort of like the recent Clue Mystery series, but the writing is better, IMO). Even though the action starts almost immediately, I was more attached to the characters than I thought.
