The Kindred Spirits Supper Club
The Kindred Spirits Supper Club | Amy E. Reichert
16 posts | 12 read | 25 to read
Jobless and forced home to Wisconsin, journalist Sabrina Monroe can tolerate reunions with frenemies and kisses from old boyfriends, but not the literal ghosts that greet her in this heartwarming tale of the power of love and connection from acclaimed author Amy E. Reichert. For Sabrina Monroe, moving back home to the Wisconsin Dells--the self-described Waterpark Capital of the World--means returning to the Monroe family curse: the women in her family can see spirits who come to them for help with unfinished business. But Sabrina's always redirected the needy spirits to her mom, who's much better suited for the job. The one exception has always been Molly, a bubbly rom-com loving ghost, who stuck by Sabrina's side all through her lonely childhood. Her personal life starts looking up when Ray, the new local restaurateur, invites Sabrina to his supper club, where he flirts with her over his famous Brandy Old-Fashioneds. He's charming and handsome, but Sabrina tells herself she doesn't have time for romance--she needs to focus on finding a job. Except the longer she's in the Dells, the harder it is to resist her feelings for Ray. Who can turn down a cute guy with a fondness for rescue dogs and an obsession with perfecting his fried cheese curds recipe? When the Dells starts to feel like home for the first time and with Ray in her corner, Sabrina begins to realize that she can make a difference and help others wherever she is.

Very excited for the #AuldLangSpinegiveaway that @monalyisha is doing. Since I just finished a book featuring an MC who can see ghosts (& loved it) from my #AuldLangSpine partner‘s list, the tagged book is the one I am most interested in winning. Mahalo! 🤗

My flight to Canada was delayed because of the storm, so by the time I actually arrived n Toronto, I had finished the whole thing! A classic meet-cute rom com, with the twist that the main character‘s family can see ghosts and help them with their “last request” before passing over. A little predictable at times, but Sabrina‘s depression was relatable and Ray‘s patience and understanding tugged at my heartstrings.

I never got to posting my Christmas stuff before going on vacation, so I‘m about to dump a couple of posts before the year ends. My mom got me a subscription to Box of Books, and the theme of this box was cooking. I LOVE the cookbook, and I read the romance novel on the plane to Canada!

This vacation was largely inspired by the tagged romance (The Kindred Spirits Supper Club). This drink was 100% inspired by the same. I got a Pink Squirrel! 🍹🐿💖

Mollyanna Those look phenomenal! Yum. 2y
squirrelbrain What on earth is a pink squirrel?! 2y
monalyisha @squirrelbrain Clearly something you need! ? It‘s an ice cream cocktail with vanilla ice cream, clear Crème de Cacao, and Crème de Noyaux (which gives it its pink color & almond flavor). 2y

This was such a great book! I loved the WI Dells setting and WI references, the cute romance between Sabrina and Ray, the supporting and loving family, the paranormal aspect and the mental health rep of anxiety. I‘ve read other books by Amy Reichert and enjoyed them, but this was my favorite by far. Makes me want to run out to a supper club!

“I‘m not interested in an old-fashioned. My last old-fashioned left me for a craft mocktail.”

Who else loves books set in their home state? Wisconsin definitely has treasures only found here, or at least, that are better here than other parts of the county. 🍺 🧀 🍦

??? What I liked: Ray & Sabrina are adorable. Her ability to talk to ghosts, especially Molly. Loved Sabrina's Mom. How Sabrina and Ray get together - very cute. What I disliked: How Ray's parents were with him, especially in the end. As someone who suffers panic attacks, I appreciate the author having a character go through those, but it felt kind of flippant & not really addressed or more of a "quirk" of Sabrina's. Cute read, just not 5 ?'s.

I like the worlds that Reichert creates (I‘ve read every one of her books), but I‘m often disappointed in the character development and, ultimately, the plot. This one has an anxious MC who can see ghosts and works for her high school nemesis. A set up with potential. But the plot had too much going on and the interactions between the two love interests felt off.

I do recommend checking Reichert out for fun romance.

Usually, I get a little judgmental when a romance isn‘t super steamy. This is a big exception! Absolutely no judgment here for this wonderfully sweet (& sometimes sexy) story. And no judgment from ME is really an accomplishment! #Capricorn

This one‘s got it all: love, cheese, brandy old-fashioneds, ghosts, dogs, female friendship, a small mystery, & post-it notes aplenty.

Sabrina‘s an empathetic MC, struggling with anxiety & kind to a fault.👇🏻

monalyisha Ray, the love interest, is considerate & careful, he takes his time; he wears glasses & has disheveled locks & a penchant for cooking & bringing people together. He eschews Big City life for the quiet & peace of the Wisconsin River. He has hilarious taste in swimwear. 🦀 I loved Sabrina. I loved Ray. I loved Ray‘s blunt, gay, & fashionable sister, Lucy. I want to visit Wisconsin, & eat, & drink, & breathe fresh air. Simply put, I loved this story. (edited) 2y

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Charming. Quirky. Oddly relatable. Family secrets abound, and a fake relationship turns very real (one of my FAVORITE romance tropes). It‘s vague...I know. But I don‘t want to give too much away! Read it and you‘ll see why!!
