A smart, sexy, and witty romantic comedy--perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Sally Thorne--about a twentysomething who lives out every woman's fantasy: getting paid to give men who do us wrong a taste of their own medicine. But when a previous target unexpectedly shows up at her office, she's forced to rethink her life as a professional heartbreaker. Brinkley Saunders has a secret. To everyone in the academic world she left behind, she lost it all when she dropped out of grad school. Once a rising star following in her mother's footsteps, she's now an administrative assistant at an insurance agency--or so they think. In reality, Brinkley works at Heartbreak for Hire, a secret service that specializes in revenge for jilted lovers, frenemies, and long-suffering coworkers with a little cash to spare and a man who needs to be taken down a notch. It might not be as prestigious as academia, but it helps Brinkley save for her dream of opening an art gallery and lets her exorcise a few demons, all while helping to empower women. But when her boss announces she's hiring male heartbreakers for the first time, Brinkley's no longer so sure she's doing the right thing--especially when her new coworker turns out to be a target she was paid to take down. Though Mark spends his days struggling up the academic ladder, he seems to be the opposite of a backstabbing adjunct: a nerd at heart in criminally sexy sweater vests who's attentive both in and out of the bedroom. But as Brinkley finds it increasingly more difficult to focus on anything but Mark, she soon realizes that like herself, people aren't always who they appear to be. With Sonia Hartl's "bitingly funny" (Publishers Weekly) prose, Heartbreak for Hire is a clever romcom you and your girlfriends won't be able to stop talking about.

3 outta 5 ⭐

This was cute. I appreciated the like community/family aspects brought up here. Mark and Brinkley were a pretty good match. I really wish it had delved a bit more into Margo (wow, did I hate her) and I was so expecting a metal detector scene with a particular metal thing at the end lol
Also, I'd not go for the audiobook. This narrator was not great 😬

I liked the chemistry between the characters, but the situations seemed a bit impossible; the company designed for revenge, the over-hatred for all men by the H4H crew, etc. I also felt like the story could have dived deeper into the story of Margo basically luring these vulnerable women into these jobs but oh well. Overall, enjoyable!

Open door rom com that gives off Hitch vibes while being completely different at the same time. Paid revenge enemies to attraction to forced coworkers to lovers to falling out to happily ever after it was classic trope but also not. Confused? Who cares! It was super cute anyway and I can't really compare it to anything else I've read recently in rom coms.

I don‘t typically gravitate to the romance genre, but I have a hard time passing up a #Chicago setting! This is a bit more explicit than I prefer, & the company that hires itself out for revenge is rather unbelievable; the chemistry between Brinkley and Markus carries the novel through its more implausible moments. Aspiring artist Brinkley exacts humiliation & revenge to bank money for her gallery dreams when a target turns into something more…

Jemgirl2014 I just preordered this after I saw a bookstagramer's synopsis. Thanks for the review! I can't wait to read it! 😊 3y

Overall, this is a mildly amusing sexy romp. Some of the manufactured angst around the main character‘s (Berkeley) job and her mother plus the coincidences around the love interest (Mark) and his own career felt a little convenient and took away from my enjoyment. I also enjoy a sweeter love story with more “closed door” type love scenes than this portrayed.

This is a sweet and predictable feel-good read. I found the women at H4H to be a bit immature and bratty, but I felt like the love story developed nicely. If you're in the mood for a light and fun (and a bit steamy) read, then grab it when it comes out! Thank you to Gallery Books and Net Galley for the ARC!

I just finished this book instead of sleeping. It was cute and funny (and hotter than I expected). Brinkley works for a small company that specializes in revenge for cheaters, mean coworkers, and the like. Her goal is to save up enough money to open her own art gallery. Things get complicated when her boss decides to hire men to expand the company and the revenges. Wish we had Mark's point of view and not just Brinkley's. Out 7/27

I really wanted to love this book because the premise is pretty awesome. However, I really couldn't get behind any of the characters, except maybe the other 3 H4H, They were all kind of awful people and, while I powered through the book, I didn't enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. However, I did want to keep reading enough to find out how it all ended.
