In The Highland Falcon Thief: Adventures on Trains #1, a middle-grade series starter from MG Leonard and Sam Sedgman, a young boy is swept up in an investigation to uncover the perpetrator of a jewel theft. When eleven-year-old Harrison "Hal" Beck is forced to accompany his travel-writer uncle on the last journey of a royal train, he expects a boring trip spent away from video games and children his age. But then Hal spots a girl who should not be on board, and he quickly makes friends with the stowaway, Lenny. Things get even more interesting when the royal prince and princess board for the last leg of the journeybecause the princess's diamond necklace is soon stolen and replaced with a fake! Suspicion falls on the one person who isn't supposed to be there: Lenny. It's up to Hal, his keen observation, and his skill as a budding sketch artist to uncover the real jewel thief, clear his friend's name, and return the diamond necklace before The Highland Falcon makes its last stop.

MG Leonard really is a true middle grade author who captivates the reader with her words and loveable characters. Hal and his uncle are travelling on the Highland Falcon. Hal becomes involved in a jewel theft on the royal train. Hal and a stowaway he meets work against time to find the perpetrator before the train comes to the end of the line. Perfect for middle grade children and fans of trains. Can‘t wait to read the next magical adventure.

Harrison Beck pulled a biro from the pocket of his yellow anorak, deftly turning it over his index finger so it was point down, and doodled in the central margin of the newspaper spread across the table.

I love everything written by MG Leonard so definitely looking forward to starting this. I‘ve read quite a lot of rom-com this summer so thought I‘d do middle grade next.

Starting the weekend off a little early today. It‘s been one of those weeks, so an especially laid back and relaxing weekend is needed. I just made a pot of tea, a Darjeeling with tropical notes, a rainy 1870‘s London ASMR in the background, and this adorable #MiddleGrade book, featuring a train trip across the UK, and a mystery involving stolen jewels.

Amiable What a gorgeous photo! 3y
