First Cycle: A Novel | H. Beam Piper
3 posts | 2 read
In a galaxy very far away, two planets were born. One was watery while the other was hot and arid. On both planets, natives grew more intelligent and as centuries went by, it was inevitable that the two civilizations would find a way to meet.

Pickpick

This is a strange book. Its listed as a novel, but it's more the history and evolution of two neighboring planets, Hetaira and Thalassa. One world grows into a Soviet style system, called the Organic State, while the other takes on a form of anarchistic capitalism. Eventually, the two worlds meet, with predictably results. 3 💥💥💥 1/2

For endless millenia the red dwarf, pulled from its home orbit by some random stellar happenstance, crossed the lonely void between the two galaxies of the near universe.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

audraelizabeth That looks like some vintage scifi. 3y
RamsFan1963 @audraelizabeth Yep, definitely an old school sci-fi I picked up at Goodwill 3y
Bookwomble I've also a few Piper's to read which I've never gotten round to. Have you read his Little Fuzzy books? I think I might give them a go, now your post has nudged me 🙂 3y
RamsFan1963 @Bookwomble I read Little Fuzzy years ago, and found it a bit too cutesy for my tastes. I have enjoyed other Piper books like Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen and Federation. I blame the Ewoks for ruining cute aliens for me 🤣 3y
Bookwomble @RamsFan1963 Ah, I have Lord Kalvan, too, so perhaps that would be the one this me to stay with. And, yes, I've always thought from the book duvet illustrations that the Fuzzies were very much Ewoks, or rather the other way around 🐻 3y
