I enjoy a good thriller/crime novel. This was good and it wasn't predicable, but I found the characters to be a bit unlikeable in parts.

John Rebus, now medically retired, investigates the murder of his daughter‘s life partner who was obsessed with an historical POW camp on the northern coast of Scotland. Could old secrets be involved?

At the same time Siobhan is investigating the murder of a Saudi student who was linked to a big real estate deal. Her temporary partner is meeting with a gangster in an attempt to hush up a scandal.

In short, the usual great plot and twists.

The latest installment of John Rebus, still detecting albeit not part of the police force now. His daughter needs his help, as her husband as disappeared. Plus the team in Edinburgh are also investigating a crime which connects to the disappearance of the husband. I as usual enjoyed this one.

Just finished this minute. Most satisfying. Along with my previous read , authors finished writing during the first Scottish lock down. So glad Ian Rankin has revived Rebus. Look forward to more.

CarolynM Sorry to hear about your lockdown. Hope WA knocks it on the head as fast as SA did and you've got some good books to get you through😘 3y
Jeg @CarolynM Thanks. I know it‘s such a shame. We were doing so well. So 🤞🤞. I‘ve got 3 shelves of TBR books . I‘ve decided to not go out as I don‘t want to wear a mask. Plus it‘s too hot outside anyway. 3y

Rebus's daughter, Samantha, calls her father because her partner, Keith, has been missing. Rebus knows his daughter will be the prime suspect. Will he be able to prove she is innocent? Side story about the murder of a Saudi student which Siobhan Clarke and Malcolm Fox are involved with. The cases do eventually intertwine with Big Ger Cafferty showing up too. I found this book to be cleverly written. Thanks to NetGalley & Little Brown & Company.

EadieB @TheSpineView This is my 2nd book in the #ReadYourWay #Readathon - so far I have read 2 books and 571 pages. 3y

I‘m starting my #ReadYourWay #Readathon with this book. My goal is to finish 10 books from #NetGalley and finish some books on my TBR list.

TheSpineView Great goal! Good luck!❤📚 3y

The top row are review titles for Shelf Awareness. The middle row are things I‘ve been meaning to read for a while. The bottom row are rereads that might be comforting. I also have a couple of lighthearted / Christmassy reads in reserve in case my brain totally shuts off. 🤪

I doubt I‘ll actually finish this many books, but we‘ll see!

What‘s in your stack?

I‘m getting pretty sleepy. 😴
Might have to call it quits — at 42% though, so not a shabby beginning!
