Backing things up a few months to a book I read for #MiddleGradeMarch but never reviewed…😆 This charming children‘s classic has been sitting on my shelves for years, and I‘m glad I finally read it. It follows a group of Dutch schoolchildren in their efforts to bring storks back to their small village. I loved all their discoveries and distractions along the way, and how the whole village grows to know one another better through their efforts.

1955 Newbery winner. In a small town in the Netherlands a school (5 boys, 1 girl) work to bring storks back to town. They make friends with several old people in town, learn how different people have different strengths, and how important teamwork is. A great book and very much still relevant and very much worth reading! I had never heard of this and did not read it as a kid, which makes me kind of sad. #newbery

BarbaraBB I have never heard of this one too, living in the Netherlands. Must check out! 5y
DreesReads It‘s really sweet and perfect for Newbery-aged kids! You‘ll have to tell me how realistic the setting is. 5y
