It Gets Worse
It Gets Worse: A Collection of Essays | Shane Dawson
"Shane Dawson, dubbed 'YouTube's comic for the under-30 set' by the New York Times, reveals some of his most embarrassing moments in 20 original, personal essays that are at once hilarious and heartwarming, self-deprecating, and ultimately inspiring to his audience of more than 12 million channel subscribers"--

Reading Shane is like having a coffee with an old friend.
Another one sitting read with Shane.
I read this in one sitting when it first came out as well as I Hate Myselfie.
I love this guy more and more each time I read it

🖤 Day Seven 🖤

I have a confession to make- I‘ve never listened to a bookish podcast in my entire life. I have, however, listened to or watched almost every podcast by Shane Dawson. He‘s written two books, so I‘m gonna let him count for today‘s post.

I‘ve also listed to Psychobabble (Tyler Oakley) and Ear Biscuits (Good Mythical Morning). I‘m honestly a YouTube person. I love internet famous people.

I *love* this book. Not just because I‘m Shane Dawson fan, but because it‘s an honest collection of essays from someone who is ‘Internet famous‘ that isn‘t pushing products at us, or overwhelming us. It‘s a man, who grew up from little to nothing, into a “celebrity,” reminding us that we all start small, and to not be ashamed of who we ultimately are inside. Read this book! And watch Shane on YouTube. :)

This book was so inspiring and encouraging... I love the positivity and undying support Shane gets from his mother. It is truly uplifting.

This book was absolutely amazing! Hilarious, heartfelt, inspiring, and as self-loathing as always! Shane's masterpiece puts a comical spin on life's most valuable lessons. It hooked me from the beginning and I completed it all in one sitting! My expectations had been far exceeded! This is a read for all ages and is a perfect collection of coming-of-age tales that inspire all people- no matter who you are. This book will forever remain in my heart.

madlyn I can't wait to read this !! 7y

--English isn't my first language, please excuse the mistakes I make--

Shane didn't really surprise me with this book, which is a good thing. I've been watching his videos on YouTube for ages and I really admire his way to deal with life. This book is everything I expected, reading it was like listening to him telling a story.
If you like that kind of f*cked up humor he stands for, this book's perfect for you.

Not my type of humor so didn't really enjoy this but if it's your type of humor give it a shot.

"I'm here to tell you that it gets worse. It really does. The problems you have as a kid will seem ridiculous when you get older because bigger and worse problems will come along. But you will learn to deal with them easier as you grow up, or, like me, you'll just stop giving a shit. So yes, it gets worse, but you know what gets better? Your tolerance for bullshit."

So even though I bailed I'm going to give this 3⭐️. He's funny and it will certainly appeal to a wide audience. But for me he relies too much on shock factors- sex, size of his member, fat shaming, bathroom functions, vomit and other bodily fluids. There's also too much "I cracked a joke, the person didn't get it". Got it. He's funny but I guess I prefer a more sophisticated humor? Didn't want to wait through the last 100 pages.
