Another cozy mystery, this time with a between the wars setting and amateur detective with a touch of the Bertie Wooster‘s although one hundred times more shrewd. An easy, fun read. Thanks @batsy for putting this one on my radar.

batsy Glad to hear you enjoyed it! 💙 2y
julesG @batsy And I've stacked it. Thanks you two. 2y

mabell @batsy @CarolynM I was intrigued and wondered if this was a vintage reprint or a historical mystery. I found the author‘s page, which answered the question, but made it even more interesting! https://clarabenson.com/about/ 2y
CarolynM @mabell That‘s brilliant! I think she‘s achieved her object. Thanks for the link. 2y

A rather fun, fluffy romp that's perfect escapist reading. My brain didn't have to go beyond "idle" mode ? There was some dry, snappy British banter; characters being all manner of silly; and a 1920s Golden Age detective fiction vibe that's perfect for bedtime reading.

LeahBergen Fun! 👏🏻 3y
batsy @LeahBergen it was! :) 3y
Suet624 Idle mode. I like that description. 3y

A vintage-style mystery with a good dash of Woodhousian silliness. I was very impressed by how good she was at balancing the humour within the story, very solid writing which made reading the story effortless. I was able to switch off my brain the same way I do with Agatha Christie.

I think that the super-loyal Asian servant trope can die. But apart from that this was a very enjoyable 4 stars.

I got super confused with this and thought it was actually old!

Anyway, this is a really fun murder mystery set in the 1920s with a hero who‘s a bit Bertie Wooster but actually quite clever underneath and with a good heart. I‘d happily read more of these.

drokka I've wanted to read these for ages. 6y

#HumpDayPost Sorry you‘re having a rough time #tricksytails here‘s Hildegard being bathed (by my mum) & attempting a career in fashion by creating an outfit from her bed...

3. No nuts
4. A Case of Blackmail in Belgravia - a murder mystery set in the 1920s. I‘m 50 pages in and so far, so good.
5. I‘m a big formula one fan but this time of year I‘m all about figure skating and the Olympics are nearly here. ⛸

LeahBergen Is she named after Hildegard von Bingen? ❤️ 6y
Verity @LeahBergen I wish I could say she was. She‘s named Hildegard because my parents wanted a German name because the last one was Mitzi and because it could be shortened to Hill so my mum could live out her 1995 pride and prejudice fantasies and pretend to be Mrs Bennett and yell “Hill! Hill! Oh where is Hill!” when calling the dog. I know. I‘m sorry. 6y
LeahBergen @Verity That‘s hilarious! 😂 6y
TricksyTails Thank you for sharing adorable photo of Hildegard! 🤗♥️ 6y

“It‘s 1929, and Ticky Maltravers is the toast of London society-until someone poisons him over dinner. But who murdered him?” 🔎

London. 1929. Murder at a dinner party. A sleuth with an exasperating mother and a pretty girl needing his help. The back blurb is ticking off all the boxes for a good mystery.
