I loved this book, set in a border town near Northern Ireland during the ‘Troubles‘ in 1981. Great plot, with weighty themes but balanced with humour, this MG read is suitable for more mature readers or younger teens. Loved the main character, the surprise twists, and the message of hope it brings.

Looove this one. This is a brilliant YA intro to contemporary and ancient Irish history. The story is compelling and had me on the edge of my seat. Genuinely did not see the end coming, even though the evidence was there. Highly recommended.

Also counting this for #readharder because I think this particular cover is intensely boring despite the book being amazing and having had other, better covers.

erzascarletbookgasm I want to read this too but somehow got put off by the cover. Mine is a different one but just as unappealing. Never judge a book by the cover, eh? 😉 5y
elizabethlk @erzascarletbookgasm I knew I wanted to read it before I picked it up off the shelf from an online description. The title got me for sure too. But I'm not sure I would have picked up this particular cover without already wanting it 5y

Day 19 of #riotgrams calls for a book where I have been to the setting. Bog Child by Siobhan Dowd is set near the North-South border of Ireland in the 80s. I have been to a number of places in Ireland mentioned specifically in the book. The premise seems fantastic (I've barely started), but I am probably counting this for my #readharder challenge as a book with a cover I don't like, since it is a bit bland for how entertaining it seems.

Congratulations on your awesome milestone @DGRachel and thank you 💐for the generous giveaway! 🍾🎉📚💝

Middle grade books are one of my recently discovered love and I‘m impressed how much depth the stories contained. I can‘t recommend enough this genre (or rather, category) to friends. These are just a fraction of the books from that category- some I‘ve read and loved and a few on my TBR.
#ShareTheLitsyLove

LiteraryinLawrence I love this genre! Have you tried anything by Lynda Mullaly Hunt? She‘s one of my favorite lesser known MG writers. 6y
merelybookish I love middle grade fiction too. There's a monthly #mgbuddyread hosted by @Lmstraubie. It's pretty low stakes and we've read some good books. Discussion is last Sat of each month. I think February, it's A Wrinkle in Time, but generally is something fairly recent. For January we read 6y
mrp27 I'm in the middle grade fiction fan club too. A genre I've never stopped reading or have outgrown. 6y

erzascarletbookgasm @LiteraryinLititz No, I have not! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Will look her up. 🙂 6y
erzascarletbookgasm @merelybookish Oh, I‘m not aware of the buddyread. I‘ll check it out. I might join in the Feb discussion if it‘s that book. If it‘s a fairly recent book, I may have difficulty in getting a copy. (edited) 6y
erzascarletbookgasm @SaraBeagle yes, I have! I read it without knowing before hand it‘s a homage to A Wrinkle in Time. 6y
erzascarletbookgasm @mrp27 @batsy Yay! long live middle grade fiction! 🙌 6y
batsy @merelybookish And now I finally figured out what mgbuddyread stands for 😳😂 6y

I decided to read this after learning Siobhan Dowd was the woman who came up with the idea for A Monster Calls. Bog Child is set in Northern Ireland during the troubles and focuses on 18 year old Fergus. I really loved Fergus and how he navigated such difficult circumstances without giving up his integrity or dreams.

drokka I really enjoyed this one as well. I think it was my first ever audiobook from Overdrive. 7y

These are the only books I'm definitely reading this month. The rest will depend on how I feel! #tbr #feistyfeb

Gissy Is that Cincinnati series good? Seems interesting! 7y
ScorpioBookDreams @Gissy if you like romantic suspense then it's brilliant. I love all of Karen Rose's books. (edited) 7y
