A few years ago I read another book by this author (A Dark Lure) and wasn't particularly impressed, so this one has languished in Kindle purgatory for quite some time. However, not only was it a #TrappedonanIsland pick this month, @aperfectmjk recommended this one specifically from my group of five, so I decided to prioritize it and am glad I did, as I was completely glued to the pages throughout! The pacing was absolutely spot-on, rotating ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) between various (3rd person) POVs and between the “lodge party“ and the rescue search. Here's the thing, there have been several And Then There Were None riffs in recent years (which if you haven't read Christie's original, definitely do that before reading this one - this one will make more sense AND it has spoilers for ATTWN), so if you're feeling a bit over-saturated with thrillers about a group in an isolated location getting ⬇ 12mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) picked off one by one, you may not enjoy this one as much as I did haha But I absolutely raced through this one, and while I wasn't shocked by the ending (I had put together most of the pieces), I still wanted to get the details about how everything had happened the way it had.

Thanks again for the recommendation @aperfectmjk and for hosting #TrappedonanIsland !!!

aperfectmjk I'm glad you liked it! A Dark Lure wasn't my favorite by her either. If you're interested in reading more, I recommend the Angie Pallorino Trilogy. Also In the Waning Light... that one left me with a book hangover. 12mo
TheAromaofBooks @aperfectmjk - I think I got both of A Dark Lure and this book as free or 99c Kindle books quite a while back. It was nice to get this one checked off the embarrassingly long list of Kindle books I seem to have piled up! 😂 I'll definitely check out the ones you recommended. Waning Light sounds really good!! 12mo

@TheAromaofBooks here are thr books I have chosen for you. I picked 3 from some of my favorite authors, Loreth Anne White, Blake Crouch, and Mark Edwards. If you're going to read anything from these selections I would definitely go with In the Dark. I just love her work. Her descriptive writing is perfect for a reader like me who wants to immerse themselves in the story.

#Trappedonanisland

TheAromaofBooks Thank you so much!!! My goal every month is to read at least one book from the group and the rest as bonuses, so I'll give In the Dark the priority slot!! 13mo
aperfectmjk @TheAromaofBooks Yay! I have read 13 of her books (which is a lot from one author for me) and I have her newest book on my list this month The Maid's Diary. I'm going to use it for the "Sofa" and "Window" prompts in #ispybingo. 13mo

Eight guests are heading to a secluded lodge in Canada for a fabulous getaway. Things aren‘t as they seem and they are in for surprise when they arrive. This has major influence from Agatha Christie‘s “And Then There Were None” which takes center stage in the book. It is a good mystery and I didn‘t figure it out until the end.

This #KindleUnlimited thriller is fast paced and an all around engaging read! Inspired by Agatha Christie‘s And Then There Were None, this book shifts between narrators and timelines between after and during a group of seemingly unconnected people are stranded in a remote Canadian lodge. Some twists are easier to see coming, but it definitely kept my attention from start to finish!

Literary_Siren I love your lamp! 4y
TorieStorieS @Literary_Siren Thank you!! I got it last year at a one-of-a-kind show and just fell in love with it!! 4y
Anna from Gustine And Then They Were None is one of my favorite all-time books! This sounds great! 4y

My 1st five star read of 2020 - read this if you enjoyed Agatha Christie‘s And Then There Were None!

I was hooked from the first chapter which set up the rest of the book into a suspenseful "whodunit?"

White used the chapters to give each character a distinct voice that as the book progresses and the suspense tightens across them, closing into the end, everyone's true colors come out and it's a spectacle to read.

If it wasn't for the fact that I had to go to work the next day, I could have easily kept reading this well into the night.

February reading:

The Third to Die by Allison Brennan (ebook)
In The Dark by Loreth Anne White
Egg Drop Dead by Vivien Chien (ebook)
The Shape of Family by Shilpi Somaya Gowda
The Return by Rachel Harrison
Thin Ice by Paige Shelton

Top reads were In The Dark and The Shape of Family but I enjoyed everything I read this month.

Mehso-so

For the most part, this book was entertaining. I wanted to know whodunit by the end and was surprised when I found out. The characters were interesting and full-fledged. The beginning was a little slow and felt like a dossier on each of the characters and the last chapter was a major infodump. But as both of those go, they kept my attention. More...

SoapboxEdits With a mystery, I like to have a few more of the pieces so I can at least play detective and felt that was a bit weak. The dynamic between the two protagonists was interesting and I'd read more stories with them in it. Overall, it was entertaining and I'd pick up another if this is going to be a series. 4y

A nice, suspenseful homage to one of my favorite books ever, Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None". Set in the wilds of Canada with plenty of tension, tight writing, and atmosphere galore!

Reviewsbylola I think I‘m down to 30 new books a month or less. 😆 4y
BookDragonNotWorm @Reviewsbylola I feel ya! I'm trying this new thing where I can only buy a new one when I finish one I already have. Trying.....and failing! 😂 4y

I have loved every thriller I‘ve read by Loreth Anne White and this book didn‘t disappoint. This is definitely whodunnit. It kept me guessing to the end! Just when I thought I‘d figured it out, something happened to make me change my mind.

How do you choose between a murder mystery that pays homage to And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and a WWII book that focuses on Italy after the fall of Musolini? Answer: you don't. I chose one as my free first reads pick and pre-ordered the other.
