Dr Bruce Perry‘s Neurosequential Model is laid out with heart-breaking stories of children who have faced trauma. Not for the faint at heart, but worth pushing through. The first 4 years of a child‘s life are do instrumental in healthy brain development that trauma through these first years can literally derail their entire lives.

Bruce Perry is legit, and this was an awesome read for me.
If you are looking to gain a better understanding of trauma, childhood development, and destigmatizing mental health, this is definitely one to add to your stack.
pickThis was not an easy book to the read, but I read it because I work with teenagers. I think it's a useful read for those who work with kids. It provides more signs to look for to realize when they need help so I can then refer them to the professionals. It is quite challenging to get through though just because of the subject matter.

pickI found this book really interesting. It talks about Bruce Perry's work with children who have severe behavioral, emotional, or learning difficulties that have endured severe trauma. He created a specific type of therapy known as the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT.) I started reading this for a trauma class back in April, and slowly chipped away at it until mid-November.
pickAn important book about how trauma impacts child development and more specifically the brain. The authors use one case per chapter to discuss behaviors, long term ramifications, and the resiliency of humans. The examples are fascinating: Branch Davidian survivors, Russian orphans, and yes, a boy who was raised as a dog. You‘ll be thankful for child psychiatrists providing treatment to the children who deserve so much better from their families.
pickNot an easy read at times but I think anyone who works with young children should read this. I know it definitely have me a new perspective on what some of my students may be dealing with.
I had originally requested this back in February in hopes that it could give me more insight in how to better help some of my more challenging students. Due to Covid I am just now getting this. Those students may have moved on but I have faith that this will better prepare me for those still yet to come. A teacher never stops learning.

pickThis book was heartbreaking, informative, enlightening, and hopeful all at the same time. Even if you're not a psychology nerd or around children much, this is still a very worth-while read.

Also, I feel like I shouldn't say that this is a good book because of the nature of it, but the book is really interesting and well written. It's a child psychologist who wrote about various traumatized children that he helped.
