Started this one after Kim Jiyoung. Had been debating getting a new therapist, but by the end of the intro I knew it was time! I downloaded the PDF of the questionnaires and wow talk about clarity! I don‘t know if any real healing has happened yet, but someone is ready for therapy now. Very clear how both my mother and grandmother expressed their emotional immaturity. Talk about an eye opener!

GingerAntics I mean, I knew they were both abusive in their own ways, but I always thought of my grandmother as the mature one… the adult in our house. Turns out, NOPE! Just as immature as her daughter. #LindsayCGibsonPsyD #AdultChildrenOfEmotionallyImmatureParents #audiobook #busbook #mindblown #newperspective #therapy #therapyhereicome #eyeopener 2d

Galit Atlas has married psychoanalysis with what feels like the magical world of emotional inheritance, in which ancestral trauma is passed down through generations. Except that the way in which we all know more than we think we do about our families and one another unconsciously is not magic, it is very real; as is the way in which processing the trauma can finally begin to heal and release it. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BirdLaVie “Our hope lies in the understanding that our emotional work has a profound effect on who we, our children, and our grandchildren will become. Trauma is transmitted through our minds and through our bodies, but so are resilience and healing.” 1mo

Just finished this one! Read it for book club. It‘s not something I would‘ve read on my own. It was a little slow to start but eventually picks up. Greta is an interesting character. Overall I liked it but it‘s definitely quirky & may not be for some people. I‘m eager to see what people at book club have to say about it!

This was strange, and took several twists. The story with Greta was unsettling but ultimately she reached some closure - less so with the title character. Sometimes the characters seemed too much. But very engaging

The ending didn't quite do it for me (endings rarely do), but I enjoyed the rest of this novel quite a bit. It's uncomfortable in a lot of ways, with people acting badly and keeping secrets and generally doing things that aren't in their own best interest, but it's also hilarious, and the characters grow in realistic, incremental ways.

I hate the cover, though, so here's a hawk at the park the other day.

Soubhiville I like your photo much more than the cover! It was one of my least favorite last year. 3mo
ImperfectCJ @Soubhiville I usually don't have very strong opinions about covers, but this one bugs me so much that I kept letting my library loan lapse without reading it. At least I liked the inside of the book. I dislike the cover of A Little Life, and I disliked the insides, too. 3mo

MMFinck I also loathe the cover. 3mo
