Unattractive Vampire
Unattractive Vampire | Jim McDoniel
8 posts | 13 read | 11 to read
Jim McDoniel s first novel is quirky, wild, and weird, and definitely for those who hate those sexy vampire stereotypes who like their monsters nice and gross. Geeks of Doom Jim McDoniel s debut novel, "An Unattractive Vampire," is a darkly comic urban fantasy of ancient horrors in suburban cities. After three centuries trapped underground, thousand-year-old Yulric Bile also known as the Cursed One, the Devil s Apprentice, He Who Worships the Slumbering Horrors awakens only to find that no one believes he is a vampire. Apparently he s just too ugly modern vampires, he soon discovers, are pretty, weak, and, most disturbing of all, good. Determined to reestablish his bloodstained reign, Yulric sets out to correct this disgusting turn of events or, at the very least, murder the person responsible. With the help of pert vampire-wannabe Amanda; Simon, the eight-year-old reincarnation of his greatest foe; and a cadre of ancient and ugly horrors, Yulric prepares to battle the glamorous undead. But who will win the right to determine, once and for all, what it truly means to be a vampire?"

I enjoyed this for the light an humorous read it was. Borders on the so-so line for me due to the fact that it has a lot of footnote asides that were badly formatted on my ereader which required a bookmark of the page you are on to skip to the footnote and then use the bookmark to go back to where you were. I gave up on them half way through because I was frustrated by the process.

Just started this one. Pretty fun spoof on all the new sexy, good vampires versus the old school evil kind

I finished this book yesterday and I liked it. It is full of dark humour and I loved Yulric, the vampire of the story. I really liked the premise of the story, a vampire that comes to this century to re-establish the original fame of his kind, although no one believes that he is a vampire. It is a light read, full of funny characters and some parts that will really make you laugh. All in all, it is a good enterntaining book.

I am giving this one a try. The premise seems very interesting, and I am in need of something light, fun and a bit dark.

Yulric Bile is annoyed. A very annoyed, very old, very ugly vampyr. Vampires are not supposed to be good, They are not supposed to be sexy. Yulric certainly isn't. And thus we begin our "hero's" journey. What is a modern vampire?

It's dark, satirical, and makes fun of the sexy vampire idea. I laughed out loud and possible snorted a few times. Good Omens, Christopher Moore humor. So happy McDoniel got published on Inkshares.

My toddler has decided it's my bed or bust. Kindle to the rescue. Getting some reading in while the pint sized awake one who should be sleeping sings his own version of wheels on the bus.
