The Snow Queen | Joan D. Vinge

Apparently this month RNG decided that I should deep dive into snow queen reimaginings. I really liked this as it‘s definitely a sci fi take with technology taking the place of the more traditional magic. I know there‘s two other works in this world but I feel like there was definitely a resolution and not a real cliffhanger. But I did enjoy it enough to read on.

I really enjoyed the this even though the twist was kind of obvious. This kind of reminded me of The Ten Thousand Doors of January although this precedes that by a lot. There‘s that tale within a tale motif and an orphan only this has a bit of political intrigue as well.

Happy #BookSpin Day to all who celebrate! This is my must finish stack to meet all my challenge commitments for the year. Tagged and the one underneath are this month‘s selections with the rest of the stack my backlog. Not pictured are my two #CalibreRoulette picks: Alphabet of Thorn and The Snow Queen. Thankfully RNGesus did not saddle me with yet another chunkster.

I was a little surprised how much I enjoyed this. There were three main povs and I was curious to see how they would connect, if they did at all. I liked watching the mystery of bone shard magic unfold and the growing rebellion in the empire. I'm a little sad the next one isn't available yet. This was my #CalibreRoulette pick for the month.

Happy #BookSpin day to all who celebrate! I‘ve gathered the two picks for this month, American Gods and Neverending Story, along with my Double Spin backlog and my #Calibreroulette pick for the month. I‘ve told myself no more St. Mary‘s books until I get through all these first.
Bonus of Sierra‘s approval. #CatsOfLitsy

Low pick because I enjoyed my time reading but it‘s full of tropes and not very original. I am intrigued by the magic system though so I may read on in the series eventually.

I liked this but it's a low pick. Maybe I would have loved it more if I had done a refresher or Norse mythology to get all the in jokes. There was definitely a layer of humor woven in but it was never laugh out loud funny like I was hoping for. This was one of my #CalibreRoulette picks.

Well this was exactly as advertised being a recollection of the first fifteen lives of Harry August. The way Harry tells of his lives is not linear but more thematically with those portions being told related to a theme or event he is pursuing. I liked that you gradually see how things relate and that by the last sentence you want to know even more.
This was my #CalibreRoulette pick for July.

Here is my must read stack for August. It includes picks from June and July‘s #bookspin as well as the new picks for August which are The Complete Grimm‘s and Legend. Loki is my #calibreroulette pick for the month.

Larkken Calibre as in the digital library org software? 3y
HeyT @Larkken Yeah I filter it to unread and then use RNG to pick a title. 3y
Larkken That's a great idea! I haven‘t used calibre in a minute, but I remember really liking it. 3y
