Haunted Hikes
Haunted Hikes: Real Life Stories of Paranormal Activity in the Woods | Maren Horjus
2 posts | 1 read | 3 to read
Strange things happen in the woodsvanishing figures along backcountry paths, eerie noises half-heard near urban pathways, pungent and undefined smells blanketing forest trails. Science falls short of explaining these phenomena Haunted Hikes tells the stories behind 100 spooky and sinister areas across the countryfrom the Ghost House Trail in Big Ridge State Park, Tennessee, where photographs of the cemetery yield silhouettes of families laid to rest there, to the Transept Trail at Grand Canyon National Park, where a wailing woman in a white dress with blue flowers is often seen pacing the rim. This book pinpoints the trails and reveals their unnerving histories. Within these pages are also basic hike specifications like distance and difficulty, as well as the trailhead GPS where applicable. The book wont take you on a mile-by-mile journeyyoure on your own for that one, if you dare

A place surrounding with trees with nice breeze, quiet, looking at the trees with a book or in front of the ocean, late hours in the afternoon at the sunset without many people around with a book. Both places with comfy seat and clothing. I love a nice coffee, tea, iced tea with chips, cookies, chocolate or popcorn. Happy Birthday @Chrissyreadit 🎂I'm waiting for some things & I will be out next week but you'll receive a box soon😘

Chrissyreadit Thank you @Gissy that is incredibly sweet of you!!! I do not even know what to say 💗💗💗💗 5y

wanderinglynn Haunted hikes sounds like fun! My ideal self-care day—well that could go a lot of different directions. But I‘d most likely spend the rest of the day hiking (I find being in nature restorative) & reading, and then get a massage. 5y
Chrissyreadit @wanderinglynn that is an ideal day! Being able to hike again is one of my goals. But I‘m scared to even think about it yet.... one mile at a time. 5y
wanderinglynn You‘ll get there! 💜👍🏻 One step, one day at a time. 5y

Avanders I agree — haunted hike sounds fun! As for an ideal self-care day... 🤔 it totally depends on the season. But pretty universal would be: the *whole* day to myself (an impossibility these days) then early morning, something outside — hike, just watching sunrise, etc. Then latte and pastry at a local coffee shop w a book. A massage/hot oil scalp massage/scrub for sure. Followed by “spa lunch” and more reading. 🥰🥰 (edited) 5y
monalyisha This is fun! My dream day would definitely start with brunch. My favorite brunch place serves little, freshly-made sugared donuts (which come to your table still warm). This means that I don't have to choose between sweet & savory (because obviously I'm ordering the eggs benedict). Bloody Mary(s) are a given. And then, I agree with @wanderinglynn: some combination of nature (either the woods or the beach), lazy reading, & a massage! 5y
monalyisha P.S. @ChrissyReadIt Does your dream day involve Indian food? Is that what I spy on the bottom-right? 5y
wellreadredhead My dream day definitely involves reading on my porch during a mild day at like 75 degrees. Can‘t wait for one of those this fall! I would also love to have meals with all my favorite foods that are super bad for me: pizza, pasta, chocolate lol 5y
sudi That books sounds so interesting, haunted hikes are something i'll read about but not go on one 😄. As for my ideal day, i guess it will involve stuff i like to do. Probably shopping , watching movies, dinner at my favorite restaurant or pampering myself with mani - pedi and reading. Or even something as simple as cup of coffee or tea from my fav place will make the day ideal for me 😄..... 5y
sudi It doesn't take much to make my day ideal, i get excited for practically everything 😂 5y
Chrissyreadit @Avanders sounds like a perfect day! 5y
Chrissyreadit @monalyisha I love your ideal day! The picture is an image of vegan soup that looked yummy. But Indian is totally one of my comfort foods. I try to eat it a couple times a month. 5y
Chrissyreadit @sudi dinner out always sounds perfect! No cooking or cleaning, and bonus if alone to read at the table.... 5y
Blaire My perfect day: waking up early enough to see the sunrise while drinking a cup of coffee; I would do yoga outside; eat breakfast; and then read a book; this would be followed by lunch and a hike with my family where they all enjoyed the hike and didn‘t complain; post-hike I would go to a spa and get a long massage and sit and relax with tea and a book. Dinner at a nice restaurant with my husband and then home to enjoy wine and tv. 5y
Mitch @Avanders can I come! 👍🏼 5y
Mitch Such a great Q @Chrissyreadit ! My perfect ‘end of summer‘ day - early rise, yummy breakfast in the garden that includes something sweet, with the sun on my face. Then a long slow walk - that takes in coast & heaths with a mountain view and includes regular stops at cute independent bakeries for more luscious baked goods. Home to left overs and a long hot bath then curl up in the armchair with a blanket, book and hubby! (edited) 5y
alisiakae Some of my fave self-care activities: hiking, taking a bath with EO‘s or 🕯, diving deep into a subject and learning just to learn, restorative yoga, and of course reading! 5y
Crazeedi My *self care* day would be-have coffee in bed made by sweet hubby, a warm shower, head outside for a small breakfast and coffee on porch, in my favorite chair. Spend the day reading, walking around the farm in 70 degree weather, and cozying up back in my chair with blanket, by a fire in the back yard. Pizza would be on the menu(earlier in day), and then hot dog cooked on fire , and a toasted marshmallow! 5y
Chrissyreadit @Blaire @Mitch @4thhouseontheleft @Crazeedi I love reading about everyone‘s perfect day!!! Now we all need to make them happen ❤️❤️❤️ 5y
Crazeedi @Chrissyreadit I agree!👍😍❣ 5y
Avanders @Mitch you are most welcome! 😁🌈 Your day also sounds perf, though, so I‘m not sure you‘re going to want to leave your happy place.... ☺️ 5y
