Tyler Kord is chef-owner of the lauded No. 7 restaurant and No. 7 Sub shops in New York. He is also a fabulously neurotic man who directs his energy into careless ruminations on sandwich philosophy, love, self-loathing, pay phones, getting drunk in the shower, Tom Cruise, food ethics, and what it's like having the names of two different women tattooed on your body. Most of these ruminations also happen to be truly excellent recipes, like roast beef with crispy shallots and smoky French dressing, or a mind-blowing mayonnaise that tastes exactly like pho. [Tyler, you never did finish writing that fried squid recipe though. You know that, right? -Ed.] This is his first book. If you buy it, you can help make sure it won't be his last. Did y'all see that Emma Straub is opening a bookstore in Brooklyn, to fill a gap when a long-time indie store recently closed here? http://www.ew.com/article/2016/12/06/emma-straub-brooklyn-bookstore I'm not familiar with her books, but I'm a fan of her father's writing and the delightful intro she penned to this cookbook. This was an impulse buy, after hearing the author on the Bon Appetit podcast.... And I'm so glad I picked it up....This book is super fun.... And hands down has the most unique combinations of ingredients, textures and flavors I've seen! Plus tons of veggie options which I love. Tyler Kord is pretty darn funny too, so it's a really enjoyable read :)
