The Most Dangerous Game
The Most Dangerous Game | Richard Connell
16 posts | 64 read | 9 to read
"The Most Dangerous Game" features as its main character a big-game hunter from New York, who becomes shipwrecked on an isolated island in the Caribbean, and is hunted by a Russian aristocrat. The story is an inversion of the big-game hunting safaris in Africa and South America that were fashionable among wealthy Americans in the 1920s.

Book 202🎧 3.5⭐️

Quick but very good! Only 50m. Originally from 1924! So definitely super spooky for it‘s time!

I‘m not sure how I have never read this delightful short story, but I‘m glad I have now! Is it a bit ridiculous? Sure. That doesn‘t stop it from being a fun little look at civility and savagery. That‘s right, I said “and” and not “versus.” 😂☺️ Rainsford is washed ashore on an island with a host who is interested in hunting the most dangerous game. What could he mean? If you haven‘t read this one yet, enjoy!

Week 4 of #TheMidnightSociety begins today! This week we‘re reading Richard Connell‘s unbelievable tale of terror — and my favorite short story — “The Most Dangerous Game.” Hope you‘ll join us at www.theannakraft.com!

#SciFiSeptember #Predator

The first story I thought of was this, where the predator is a human and he goes hunting on his island for HUMANS, those shipwrecked, with little chance of escape.

Read it in English class back ten years and can still recall the sensation it impressed upon me.

Klou Wow! Sounds like it's a book that would leave an impression! Great choice!! 4y

A reread from high school. So much characterization and adventure eloquently written into a little novella. A thrilling, thought-provoking, quick read. How would you handle finding yourself on an island that everyone steers clear of for their own safety, but there are no first hand accounts in regards to why?

Knocking a couple of the shorter reads out this week! I don‘t remember which #murderino I saw suggest this for Murdery Short Story square (sorry!) but it was a great call! I remember reading this when I was younger and loved the second read! Thanks @shanebeth for putting together the #ssdgmchallenge so I could reread these greats!

This took less than an hour to read. What a great story! The ending was surprising. I‘m interested to know what short stories do you like? I also read the Monkey‘s Paw with my son last year for his English class. That was great. Comment below your favorite short stories. I would love to read them.

LiteraryinLawrence One that I liked a lot was Benito Cereno by Melville. 6y

My son read this in his 8th grade English class. He liked it and thought I would too. So I‘m going to read it real fast before he has to turn it back in.

ticking off my first box for the Murderino challenge with a short story I vaguely remember reading as a freshman in high school. it‘s a little bit Hunger Games and Black Mirror, and a whole lot murdery. #ssdgmchallenge #murderino #shortstory

Other than The Lottery, The Most Dangerous Game comes out ahead as one of my creepiest and most memorable scary reads.

Set on an island, this disturbing little "hunting tale" used to be a popular read in the school system (it may be still; I haven't been to school in decades). It has also been frequently adaptated, including this Simpsons Halloween episode. #seasonsreadings2016
