Storm Siren | Mary Weber
There are few things more exciting to discover than a debut novel packed with powerful storytelling and beautiful language. Storm Siren is one of those rarities. Ill read anything Mary Weber writes. More, please! JAY ASHER, New York Times bestselling author of Thirteen Reasons Why Storm Sirenis a riveting tale from start to finish. Between the simmering romance, the rich and inventive fantasy world, and one seriously jaw-dropping finale, readers will clamor for the next bookand I'll be at the front of the line! MARISSA MEYER,New York Timesbestselling author ofthe Lunar Chronicles I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You dont want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will destroy you. As a slave in the war-weary kingdom of Faelen, seventeen-year-old Nym isnt merely devoid of rights, her Elemental kind are only born male and always killed at birthmeaning, she shouldnt even exist. Standing on the auction block beneath smoke-drenched mountains, Nym faces her fifteenth sell. But when her hood is removed and her storm-summoning killing curse revealed, Nym is snatched up by a court advisor and given a choice: be trained as the weapon Faelen needs to win the war or be killed. Choosing the former, Nym is unleashed into a world of politics, bizarre parties, and rumors of an evil more sinister than shes being prepared to fight . . . not to mention the trainer whose dark secrets lie behind a mysterious ability to calm every lightning strike she summons. But what if she doesnt want to be the weapon theyve all been waiting for? Set in a beautifully eclectic world of suspicion, super abilities, and monsters, Storm Siren is a story of power. And whoever controls that power will win. Readers who enjoyed Marissa Meyer's Cinder series will enjoy this fast-paced fantasy which combines an intriguing story line with as many twists and turns as a chapter of Game of Thrones!Dodie Owens, Editor,School LibraryJournal Teen Weber builds a fascinating and believable fantasy world. Inventive and entertaining. Kirkus Reviews [F]antasy readers will feel at home in Webers first novel . . .a detailed backdrop and large cast bring vividness to the story. Honestly this was just an okay book. Lots of parts the dragged. A few redeeming characters the helped my get through the book. What I did not see coming was like the last 1/4 of the book. It picked up and had a really good ending. Honestly wish the rest of the book was on the same level as the last 1/4. Think that would have made the book a little better.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ To me, just okay. I read through the whole thing voraciously and omg what a kick in the butt cliffhanger (not what I was expecting but not in a good way). The scenes were sometimes a little too chaotic — like the descriptions weren‘t enough to help me understand what was going on. And Nym was just...unrealistically angsty. I probably won‘t be picking up the next one. But if Book 2 landed in my lap, I‘d read it. Solid 3 stars for creativity.

This August, I read 10 books. Most were YA novels. I also finally read volume one of Saga. My top pick for the month is the tagged book, Siren Song.

I loved this! Great fit for fans of Marissa Meyer, who gave it a glowing endorsement. Exciting fantasy adventure, romance, and magic with powerhouse main character and an awesome POC hero. Recommended! #ya #fantasy #stormsiren

Usagi Is the main protagonist carried by the other characters or does she stand on her own? 7y
annahenke She's got the most power of them all - just trying to learn how to use it. She not perfect, though. She's got baggage and also deals with the issue of cutting, which is interesting in a fantasy novel. 7y
Clare-Dragonfly The description includes a "Christian" tag. Is that accurate? Seems a bit at odds with the world in the blurb. 7y

annahenke @Clare-Dragonfly it's published by a Christian imprint but it's just clean. I don't recall any overtly Christian aspects. It's a fantasy world. 7y
cjbooklover Did you ever read the whole trilogy? 5y

I'm on vacation at the beach this week and there have been some absolutely GORGEOUS thunderstoms in the evenings; fitting for my current read! I've been in such a YA fantasy mood lately, so I wanted to give Storm Siren a try even though it's got pretty bad ratings.

Do you prefer to read series or standalone? I love getting invested with characters and plot lines, so I almost exclusively read series--and the longer the better! I got lucky and was able to pick up all of the Storm Siren trilogy in hardback at Half Price Books. I had the first one in Ebook format already, but who can say no to hardbacks?? Not me!

As for what I'm currently reading, I'm making progress on Storm Siren! I think I'd prefer to read it because it took me awhile to tell what names went to which characters, but I think I'll continue it on audio. :) #currentlyreading

It was a fun book, but the characters weren't all likeable, & a lot of them were predictable. I saw the "twists" coming a mile away. Still a good read if ya can't decide what paranormal fantasy book to read next, just don't expect too much from it & ya won't be disappointed.
