I picked this book for a fairytale theme in March and its intriguing synopsis. It ended up being fantastic! I felt like the main characters had great growth/depth, and I loved the romance. The world building with the wildwoods/mistings had the right atmosphere and never felt like info dumping. The author composed a little song for the book too (lovely)! My only complaint is Maekallus‘s character design is strange and I never got used to it.

Next up on kindle! Enna knows to fear the mystings that roam the wildwood near her home. When one tries to kill her to obtain an enchanted stone, Enna takes a huge risk: fighting back with a mysting of her own.

The second book I started today. I really enjoy her work.

I am sorry to say this book became a slog. It starts with an original premise and very exciting rhythm but past the first few chapters it just drags with pointless trips to the forest and 3/4 through the story I almost quit. It is original and well written enough to merit a read but not a favorite from this author

This was my first Holmberg novel and I devoured it! The story reminded me a lot of Schwab‘s The Near Witch, Bracken‘s The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding and Lloyd-Jones‘ The Bone Houses all rolled into one. Filled with magic and mystical creatures and other realms. I‘m definitely looking forward to reading all her books!

Holmberg's writing is just my style! Her worlds are so creative & weird with so much wonderful darkness. The backstory for this world is just enough to give some footing, leaving substantial room for mystery. The dual POV approach is interesting at first, but works very well as the story unfolds. The second perspective gives just enough information to increase tension in the narrative. I loved this so much. It was a weird and wonderful read.

I'm taking home two books from the library today. The graphic novel, Cosmoknights, looks fun. The other is a fantasy about a girl and a monster who become linked through her soul. Looks right up my alley. #libraryhaul
