On balance this was a very good introduction to a new series and a new character, a person who is going through a crisis and thinks a body found could be the son she gave up for adoption at birth. This leads us to find out a lot more about Rhône‘s character and as a result you quickly become attached to her. Quite a dark seedy side of Scotland and the odd sexualised bits (could do without those). I look forward to continuing this series.

A teenage boy is found mutilated and murdered in an apartment building in Glasgow. Forensic scientist Rhona Macleod is called to the scene where she discovers that the boy resembles her. She gave up a baby boy for adoption 17 years before. She sets out to find the boy's killer and determine whether he is her long-lost son. She immerses herself in the sinister world of an internet pedophile ring.

EadieB Some very powerful men have a lot to lose if she succeeds, and everything to gain if she dies. This is a gritty read on a sensitive subject matter - paedophilia and a warning of explicit sex scenes. The characters were well-drawn and the chapters and POV's switched between the main characters. There are lots of twists in the plot that keep the pages turning quickly until the end. 2y
EadieB I'm now looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you like gritty mystery/thrillers then I'm sure you will enjoy this one. 2y

First book in a series of many, many books. Set in grey, rainy Glasgow, but has the vibe of a bigger, international, more cosmopolitan city. It‘s a good start to a series, not great, 3,5 stars. I like Rhonda, the main character, who is a forensic scientist. I think she has a lot to give. This felt more like a character than story-driven book. I hope the writing will grow with the book and its characters.

EadieB I'm looking forward to reading this series! 2y
Tove_Reads @EadieB I think it has potential! I‘m expecting it to get better. Wasn‘t bad by any means, but a bit short and a few weird things that didn‘t really work for me, but mainly an enjoyable read. 2y
EadieB @Tove_Reads That's good to hear! It's hard to tell with the first book not always the best! 2y
Andrew65 Still trying to get hold of this one. 2y

Here‘s a picture of some of the books I got in the mail. It‘s a series that @Tove_Reads posted and my library didn‘t have it and it looks good!

Tove_Reads 👍🏽 oh wow! 2y
EadieB @Tove_Reads I‘m looking forward to reading them! 2y

Tove_Reads I can get hold of most of the books, but not the first one. Will buy it as an ebook. Definitely want to read it! 2y
Susanita Nice! I‘m having trouble finding her books for some reason… 2y
EadieB @Susanita She‘s a Scottish author and my library only buys a few authors from the UK. Try using archive.org library 📚 they have some of her books. (edited) 2y
julesG I'm intrigued. Though won't bother looking for her at my local library. I can read four different editions of any Agatha Christie, or John Grisham at the same time, but nothing this exotic will have made it to our local library. 😬 2y
EadieB @julesG You can access some at archive.org 2y
julesG Thanks! 2y
EadieB @julesG 👍🏻 2y
MittenGirlPeach I‘ve read all of this series; I‘ve posted some reviews of the later books on here. Tartan Noir! It‘s excellent; I think you‘d especially enjoy it, @Andrew65 ! 2y
EadieB @MittenGirlPeach Thanks! Good to hear! 2y
MittenGirlPeach I‘ve had my library buy the most recent books, I‘ve bought some used, and some I‘ve gotten from other Michigan libraries. Some of the books were indeed tough to find. 2y
Andrew65 @MittenGirlPeach Love tartan noir so sounds right up my street. 2y

Dealing with the abuse and murder of a teenager who was caught up in a Paedophile ring plus some abductions this book was quite graphic in places but not overly so. The detectives and associates chanced upon clues rather than pure police work and there were so many characters I did start to get a little confused. With other sexual references, nothing to bad though this was an interesting rather exciting story and was a worthwhile read.

Purchasing an apartment in Fuerteventura all the contents were left by the previous owners, a Catholic couple from Dublin. When viewing we noticed two shelves of books which we asked if they could leave for us rather than disposing of them. Only having Spanish TV, which I can't understand I turned to the books, none of which I liked the look of. Out of desperation I started to read them. It turned into a delight discovering different authors.

Nute Thanks for sharing this heartwarming post. So cool to come upon a discovery of new authors this way.🙂 3y
