I love denise mina + after hearing her on the tartan noir podcast discussing this early book i gave it a go + loved it. She does ordinary people so well + 18 yr old paddy meehan, budding Glasgow journalist is great as she struggles with family, religion, colleagues to investigate a child murder. Plus captures place well
It was immensely satisfying to read about rainy Glasgow on a sunny beach ❤️👌

Waiting for the third book in the trilogy, which I had to get from a different vendor on Abebooks, but that should be arriving soon.
Dr Pete discusses the irony of John Knox being commemorated by a statue. It's not an irony I would have known about without this book.
Just finished watching the TV adaptation and once again am destroyed by the death of Dr Pete. This devastated me in the book, too. In both instances I would not be surprised if it were because Peter Capaldi plays him 😭😭😭
Why yes I do have these two gentlemen to thank for getting me started on Denise Mina's excellent novels. David Morrissey and Peter Capaldi are in the adaptation of The Field of Blood, so naturally I had to read the book first. And today I finally watched Part 1 of Season 1. ♥️
pickPaddy Meehan is an ambitious teenager desperate to be a journalist. There are a couple of serious plotholes here but there's enough good stuff to make me want to try another.
