After a busy week at work following a week off i forgot to post anything so cd be a couple of reviews over the weekend + likes!
I love denise mina + after hearing her on the tartan noir podcast discussing this early book i gave it a go + loved it. She does ordinary people so well + 18 yr old paddy meehan, budding Glasgow journalist is great as she struggles with family, religion, colleagues to investigate a child murder. Plus captures place well

Finished this morning on my commute. A feisty young reporter in Ireland, Patty finds herself in the midst of a disturbing kidnapping and murder. Facing mounting pressure from family and coworkers, she seeks the truth in an effort to clear her name...and her conscience. Solid #crime novel. Some might even say #psychologicalthriller . 3.5/5 ⭐️

Me to Mum last week: "FYI I bought you a few Denise Mina books so that you can read them and I can read them again ?"
Waiting for the third book in the trilogy, which I had to get from a different vendor on Abebooks, but that should be arriving soon.

Dr Pete discusses the irony of John Knox being commemorated by a statue. It's not an irony I would have known about without this book.

rwmg It makes sense, but I would never have thought of it. 7y
rabbitprincess @rwmg Weirdly, after reading this part of the book, I came across Knox's famous sermon from May 11, 1559, in a documentary about Scottish portrait painting! 7y

Just finished watching the TV adaptation and once again am destroyed by the death of Dr Pete. This devastated me in the book, too. In both instances I would not be surprised if it were because Peter Capaldi plays him 😭😭😭

Why yes I do have these two gentlemen to thank for getting me started on Denise Mina's excellent novels. David Morrissey and Peter Capaldi are in the adaptation of The Field of Blood, so naturally I had to read the book first. And today I finally watched Part 1 of Season 1. ♥️

Dragon So cool 😎 The Doctor meets The Governor 7y
rabbitprincess @Dragon Yes indeed! 😎 7y

Paddy Meehan is an ambitious teenager desperate to be a journalist. There are a couple of serious plotholes here but there's enough good stuff to make me want to try another.
