The Wisdom of Father Brown
The Wisdom of Father Brown | G. K. Chesterton
10 posts | 6 read | 1 to read
This early work by G. K. Chesterton was originally published in 1914. Gilbert Keith Chesterton was born in London in 1874. He studied at the Slade School of Art, and upon graduating began to work as a freelance journalist. Over the course of his life, his literary output was incredibly diverse and highly prolific, ranging from philosophy and ontology to art criticism and detective fiction. However, he is probably best-remembered for his Christian apologetics, most notably in Orthodoxy (1908) and The Everlasting Man (1925). We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

Mehso-so

My mother enjoyes the TV adaption a lot, so I gave this book a try. And I admit to really like the character of Father Brown. He's so lovable. Sadly, the stories itself weren't quite for me. Chesterton takes to long describing even the most dispensable characters. Not really my cup of tea...

Yeeeessss... Finished my next #litsyclassics today. My headache was so bad I had to leave work earlier and so I had more reading time. At my Goodreads challenge I just so that I haven't already read half of the pages I read last year... I feel a bit stressed.

So this book was quite okay. I do like the short stories style, but of course not every story is a big deal. Often I don't imagine the ending, what always reminds me of Poirot's conclusions.

Andrew65 Sending positive thoughts. Hope you are feeling better soon. 😊 6y

Woke up early because of the rain clapping on my roof... Rain, I can't believe it. 😂😂 Hoping the thunder won't come until I am at work...

So now I have some extra reading time. 💖💖💖

MommyWantsToReadHerBook Has it been as terribly hot in your part of Germany as well? My friend is outside Frankfort - around 35 every day for 4 weeks? 6y
MommyWantsToReadHerBook Sorry Frankfurt 6y

Sarah83 @PickwickPlockPlock didn't it rain at your place? 6y
PickwickPlockPlock @Sarah83 No, only dark clouds yesterday evening. The weather forecast says there'll be a thunderstorm tomorrow. 6y
Sarah83 @PickwickPlockPlock luckily there wasn't a thunderstorm this morning, but it rained over two hours 6y

On our way back home from the festival. Listening to some classic music (I can't read, while I hear people talking) and trying to get some reading done. #litsyclassics

Bailedbailed

I don't bail on books lightly. In fact some of them sit on my bookshelf half read for years. But I am trying to be more focused in my reading this year and these stories did not connect with me - the mysteries did not seem like actual mysteries to me. Disappointed because I had hopes for these stories.

DivineDiana So many books. 📚 6y
Smarkies @DivineDiana exactly. And since I am trying to get through my TBR pile as well, I am sure some of them will be duds. 😞 6y

Thinking of bailing but this is the only book I have on hand until the end of my holiday. 😑
Good thing I will be home in the next 24 hours or so.

erzascarletbookgasm 🙁 How about ebook? Or just buy more books there! 😄 6y
Smarkies I packed one book I bought into my luggage so a bit hard to get it out now. Nevermind, I have a couple of audiobooks for the plane which should hopefully tide me over for the flight. 6y

I am not really a fan of father Brown stories, and yet I keep reading them. I often wonder why.
