Elizabeth Street
Elizabeth Street: A Novel Based on True Events | Laurie Fabiano
7 posts | 13 read | 19 to read
Elizabeth Street is both a fascinating immigrant story and an intimate portrait of how a first-generation American--and the author's own great-grandmother--outwits one of the most brutal crime organizations of the early 20th century.

Oof. This one took a while. It started slow for me and would pick up and then slow again. Lots of ebbs and flows, maybe too many. But finally finished it because I don‘t like to give up on books.

#TBRtemptation post 4! Based on true events with her own family, Fabiano spins a tale of the Italian immigrant experience, stretching from Italy to NYC's Lower East Side. A family is targeted by the Black Hand, the Mafia's precursor. The group's impact on the family is intense and merciless. A tale that will wipe away any romanticism of the Mafia, and how one family triumphed over it all. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

Victoria_C I read that a while ago and was pleasantly surprised. I think it was an Amazon freebie or something, so my expectations were low. 7y

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was great. Giovanna is an amazing character and the events depicted are based on the author's family history of immigrating to the United States.

Megabooks I enjoyed this book a lot, too. Really cool how it was based in fact!! 8y
