There is a customary style from Jodi Taylor here, a confidence that whatever slightly odd thing is happening on the page it‘s well thought through and going to be fine and as such it was an engaging read. Missing for me however was a real strong MC Elizabeth Cage I despite her interesting skills seems bland and not all that easy torture for. That said I am sure i will keep reading !

Supernatural thriller(?)

Elizabeth can see things. Ghosts, auras, what will happen... She doesn't know her full range herself.

Right after her husband's funeral she's locked up in a very elaborate asylum. She needs to flee, which she does with the help of another patient. They end up in a castle in Northumberland where they solve the mystery of the resident ghost....

Paranormal/Psychological thriller with elements from the horror genre.
The good: Page turner, genuinely had my pulse racing. Genuinely scary where it meant to be. Ends on a change but not on a cliffhanger.
The bad: Excruciatingly slow-witted MC. Foreshadowing so heavy it's practically in technicolour. At least one cardinal sin in plot twist tropes. Does go on a bit with the explanations (see dim MC).

The story was slow to unravel, and then it started to feel like a “Ghost Whisperer” fanfic. The pace really picked up, and I started to get invested, but it wasn‘t anything that really grabbed my attention. Obviously being part of a series, it was expected that it would have a cliffhanger ending, but this was lacklustre.

Another fun quick read, can‘t wait to read the next in the series!
