In the fall of 1914, safe behind palace walls, Katya Ivanova sees St. Petersburg as a magical place. The daughter of a lady-in-waiting to the Empress, Katya spends all her time with the Grand Duchesses; the royal family feels like her own. But outside the palace, a terrible war is sweeping through Europe, and Russia is beginning to crumble under the weight of a growing revolution. Now, as Katya s once-certain future begins to dissolve, she must seek to understand what is happening to her beloved country and, for the first time in her life, take charge of her own destiny. This book won the Phoenix Award! This book is a good read. This book to me would be for a slightly older group. Just not sure if this is something Kindergartens could really comprehend. Looks like a great book though.

Gloria Whelan's "Russian Quartet" was a big part of sparking my deep interest in Russian history generally, and a history of St. Petersburg more specifically. You might think that #KidLit focusing on the history of #Russia from the Romanovs through Yeltsin might be a huge bore, but I thought each of these was so compelling and beautifully done for young readers. #LitsySpringBreak

kremi I also like to read everything related to the history of Russia. I will have to look at this series of books. 😊🎑 3y
Andrea313 @kremi If you decide to read them, be aware that they are children's historical fiction (emphasis on the "fiction"!). But I loved the setting and the sprinkling in of historical figures among the characters; I hope you enjoy them, too! 3y

Aimed at younger readers, this actually makes for a great read for anyone who wants an inside look at the downfall of the Romanov family and the immediate aftermath for those in their circle. Particularly if you‘re not familiar with the history, this will bring you up to speed (whatever your age).

rubyslippersreads Romanov kid lit! Sounds perfect for me. 😊 5y
KerriNTurner @rubyslippersreads that‘s exactly what I thought when I saw it! 😄 5y

Gloria Whelan's Russian Quartet is my favorite of all her work, and an all-time favorite series for young readers. These #four books follow a Russian family from the Bolshevik Revolution through the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December of '91. Sounds dry but Whelan brings it alive. #novemberbythenumbers #4
