Famous Five 18: Five On Finniston Farm | Enid Blyton
8 posts | 11 read | 1 to read
Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog find excitement and adventure wherever they go in Enid Blyton's most popular series. In book eighteen, the Famous Five hunt for the lost dungeons of a ruined castle on Finniston Farm. The friends are determined to find them, and whatever they hide, but they are not alone. Can the Famous Five get there first? The text in this edition has been sensitively edited for today's reader and is unillustrated.

November wrap up! I wish I‘d read more but I had a fantastic reading month - I read a couple of digital books from the library and the kindle came out - for a total of 11 books in November.

I absolutely adored Bloom and Check, Please! both of which were recommended to me on Instagram.

I‘d completely forgotten everything about this Famous Five outing - so had a throughly good time (even with the awfulness of the American father and son being OTT). This outing has lots of the classic Famous Five hallmarks - bicycle adventures, ginger beer, icecream and macaroons, farm folk, helping out with chores and of course falling into an adventure! (If there is gold in the cellars of a lost castle the 5 will find it)

Gosh, can you imagine how much a plate of macaroons would set you back these days?!

Excuse me while I daydream about Ladurée (the finest macaron shop in Paris)

Two lines on this one! Casual stereotypes about Americans in this one, which appears to be a common thread in Enid Blyton‘s books. Glad to see the return of ‘ginger pop‘ which hasn‘t been mentioned for quite a few books. Also, a cameo from a jackdaw named ‘Nosey‘ who did in fact go “chack-chack-chack!” 😂😂😂

MidnightBookGirl I've never read any of these books, but this book bingo card has me laughing so hard! 4y
Connster @MidnightBookGirl Haha! It would make more sense if you‘d read them...there are so many random things that run throughout the series. It‘s a real disappointment when there‘s no angry Uncle Quentin or caves! 😂 4y

I remember reading this one when I was young but I‘d forgotten enough of the plot to quite enjoy it this time around. Good haul on FF bingo also! 😂

Enid Blyton has some kind of obsession with American people using this word. Every time there‘s an American in one of her books, they brashly declare everything ‘wunnerful‘ and the British characters look on scornfully.

wanderinglynn I can honestly say, I‘ve never said that word. 😂 4y
ljuliel Lawrence Welk used to use that word in his show. Trust me, I lived in the ONE TV IN THE HOUSE GENERATION, so had to sit through many days of TV shows that the parents picked. 🤨 4y
Connster @wanderinglynn 😂 I‘m guessing that the vast majority of Americans haven‘t! Ms. Blyton and her stereotypes! 😲 4y
