After years of difficulty trying to have children, a young couple finally announces their pregnancy, only to have the most joyous day of their lives replaced with one of unexpected heartbreak. After years of difficulty trying to have children, a young couple finally announces their pregnancy, only to have the most joyous day of their lives replaced with one of unexpected heartbreak. Their relationship is put to the test as they forge ahead, working together to rebuild themselves amidst the churning tumult of devastating loss, and ultimately facing the soul-crushing reality that they may never conceive a child of their own. Based on author Ingrid Chabberts own experience, coupled with soft, sometimes dreamlike illustrations by Carole Maurel, Waves is a deeply moving story that poignantly captures a womans exploration of her pain in order to rediscover hope.

This multi-award-winning graphic novel poignantly portrays a lesbian couple and their pregnancy-related grief, along with their subsequent journey towards emotional well-being. It‘s based on author Ingrid Chabbert‘s own experience and expressively illustrated by Carole Maurel. Translation from French by Edward Gauvin. #LGBTQ #comics

Told from the author's own story, "Waves" is a beautiful in it's approach to the telling of the ups and downs, the excitement and the unpredictability of a pregnancy in both words and imagery. The visual use of color matches the words as the story moves and like waves, the colors which are bright and saturated recede to black and white and emerge in color which was a fantastic use of color and how that can be used to move the story beyond images.

#FebruaryFeels Day 13: This is one of Fats‘ #FaveMemoir: “Waves is based on Chabbert‘s own experience. After being together for more than eight years, Chabbert and her wife were ready to have a child. Due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, their dream came to an end. Waves is a story of love, loss, and finding the strength to move on.” More of her #FaveMemoir(s) here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-kSD

Beautifully written graphic novel that follows the true story of a couple who are trying to have a child but can't. The graphics and colors are amazing 😍

This book is emotional. I think there are lots of women who could find solace in this story.

#TIL No matter what terrible things life throws your way the power of the written word can get you through. The character in this begins writing to deal with what she's feeling and it helps her heal.

A beautiful use of colors and ink wash to tell a difficult story about miscarriage, mourning, and recovery. I wouldn‘t hand this book to just anyone, but i think the right audience will find it moving and gorgeous.

I am not typically into graphic novels.. but I believe another Litten steered me to request this #netgalley ARC. wow. This was gorgeous. Absolutely heart wrenching but gorgeous. If you have ever experienced pregnancy or infant loss, you will feel all these feelings. 💗💙💗💙💗💙

2⭐️ No No No no No. What did I just read. No. This is not my type of book at all and now all I want to do is scrub out my eyeballs. We follow a lovely couple as they try to hvae a baby. But it is not to be. The waves are a metaphor for grief as each woman comes to terms with what happens. 👇🏻

LibrarianRyan Over all the artwork is fantastic, and the way the illustrator uses color to show emotion is so great. If i knew someone in this situation this would be a perfect book to give them. For general library purposes this book gets a ⅘ stars, but personally for me, NO THANK YOU. I don‘t like sad stories. And yes this is my fault for not reading what the book was about before I asked to read it. 5y

A moving graphic novel showing the struggles of infertility and infant loss. Not what I was expecting but was pleasantly surprised at the sympathetic images and beautiful ending.

This graphic novel based on the author's own experience features a lesbian couple who faces infertility and infant loss. It is full of grief, yes, but above all, it focuses on the couple's love and how they rebuild. The artwork is wonderful, and I love the powerful way color/black & white is used throughout to highlight and/or invoke moods. A poignant, hopeful, and beautiful book. #LGBTQ #infertility #infantloss #graphicnovels
