What if Rapunzel was Snow White's evil stepmother? In this kingdom, only one fairy tale can end with happily ever after. In an enchanted forest, the maiden Rapunzel's beautiful voice captivates a young prince hunting nearby. Overcome, he climbs her long golden hair to her tower and they spend an afternoon of passion together, but by nightfall the prince must return to his kingdom, and his betrothed. Now king, he weds his intended and the kingdom rejoices when a daughter named Snow White is born. Beyond the castle walls, Rapunzel waits in her crumbling tower, gathering news of her beloved from those who come to her seeking wisdom. She tries to mend her broken heart but her love lingers, pulsing in the magic tendrils of her hair. The king, too, is haunted by his memories, but after his queen's mysterious death, he is finally able to follow his heart into the darkness of the forest. But can Rapunzel trade the shadows of the forest for the castle and be the innocent beauty he remembers?

So this book had me 😐 the whole time. I read the whole thing to see if it‘d get any better. Unfortunately it didn‘t. The main character is whiny and the story itself is slow moving. Besides that, many parts just didn‘t sit right with me, especially the ending.
I‘m all for a twist in a well known fairytale but this one wasn‘t the way to go.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Carolyn Turgeon has a beautiful way of rewriting a fairytale. Never disappointed in reading one of her books! There was so much raw emotion in this book, so much innocence, love, & want! Rapunzel is kept from the outside world until she enchants a prince & her life is forever changed after she allows him to climb her hair & enter her tower. There is darkness in this book that I really enjoyed!

Another fairy tale retelling I powered through for last months book club theme. I definitely enjoyed her retelling of the little mermaid more, but this book was pretty great. I thought the concept of Rapunzel as the stepmother to Snow White was unique and had some fun aspects to it.

This one came in a random book subscription box over a year ago. I just could not get through it. The concept sounds great, but the pacing was slow & the tone incredibly melodramatic. I couldn't stand the narrator, who was whiny & unreasonable. Then, when I skimmed through to the end, I found out about another plot twist that just made me UGH (spoiler below).

Not sure if this counts as a #TBRread since I didn't finish! #WinterGames #MerryReaders

TheAromaofBooks Ummmm… she ends up married to her BROTHER?! Like, that's who she falls in love with at the very beginning and is obsessed with for the entire book?! She gets PREGNANT by him?! And obviously she doesn't know that, but her creepy witch mother not only knew it, but was PLANNING for it to happen all along?!?! Sorry, don't like incest in my books. Not for me! 4y

Thank you @ulrichyumiodd for sending me this beautiful surprise of a book! I was curious to see how Rapunzel could possibly be made into Snow White‘s “Wicked Queen”. It was pulled off better than I could have imagined! Loved how Gothel, Rapunzel, & Snow all mirrored each other. Beautifully written, full of empowering women, witchy goodness, & Greek Myth allusion. Will def read more “retellings” by this author ♥️

1. A fairytale retelling. Perhaps a light one like Cruel Beauty.
2. Writing an oral presentation on Fifteen Dogs. Probably studying some medieval Latin, too.
3. The Fairest of Them All.
4. None that I can think of!
5. 👋

Samplergal Medieval Latin? I‘m in awe. 5y
ulrichyumiodd @Samplergal It‘s the last course for my minor in Medieval Studies. It‘s basically knowing the difference between classical Latin and medieval Latin. The midterm is in two weeks! 5y

What if Rapunzel was Snow White's evil stepmother?

I truly enjoyed this retelling: an original idea, great characters, and a good writing style despite some weird comparisons from time to time. It is also a much more adult take on the stories of Rapunzel and Snow White than I expected, which I appreciated. The ending leaves me partly satisfied, partly disappointed, but the book as a whole is great.

"He unlaced my dress, and I was like an oyster being removed from its shell, especially with my hair piled on my head and not hanging down to protect me. Suddenly I felt naked and raw there, in front of him. I was sober, and everything became less like a dream."

#riotgrams #kissingbooks We all know that our disnified fairy tales end with & kiss & happily ever after. But in Turgeon's twist, Rapunzel's kiss & happy ever sees her translated & turned into the evil queen.
