For use in schools and libraries only. Devastated when her best friend moves away, 16-year-old Jessica Darling feels isolated at school and at home, as she struggles to deal with her father's obsession with her track meets, her boy-crazy peers, and her own nonexistent love life.

This book did not age well. Or maybe I have grown past the angsty teen hate drama. I used to love to read this book at least once a year while growing up but I could barely get through all of the judgment and self pity that that main character “dishes” out.

I had the hardest time getting myself involved with this book. It took me to 55% to start to understand what plot the author was aiming and that was after going back to the synopsis to realize that I needed to look for Marcus. Not only did I struggle with finding the plot but a lot of the commentary that our protagonist gives to every single character of the book is either slut-shaming, sexist, or even racist at times.

Currently reading this. It‘s ok but I can already tell it‘ll probably be a case where I just read the first book. But maybe that‘ll change.

I was inspired by @Texreader ‘s suggestion to find your #firstpost - here‘s mine from about 2.5 years ago. I looked back through my feed and it was such a trip down memory lane! Funny how remembering what I was reading usually brings me right back to where I was and what was going on at that time (and how often I used Litsy to help me feel better when things were tough by reminding me that there is good stuff too). ❤️❤️

DivineDiana I love your first post! 5y
mcipher @DivineDiana Awww thanks! ❤️ 5y
DivineDiana I even tried to find it, so I could like it! 5y

Paperback.Propensity This looks so cool! I feel the same way when I remember reading a certain book. It's like when you hear an old song on the radio and remember the good ol days 5y
mcipher @Paperback.Propensity Exactly!!! I tried to explain it to my husband but he just thinks I‘m weird, going away somewhere and then reading a book. But it makes memories! 😆 5y
mcipher @DivineDiana 😆 You should definitely read this book if you haven‘t, then!! 5y
DivineDiana I did read it! And even visited the Sculpture Park in Seattle when I visited my sister! Will tag you if I can find my posts! 😉 5y
TheBookgeekFrau That's why I sometimes like to just sit in my library and gaze at the titles--it's a trip down memory lane 😊 5y
mcipher @C.Perone Yes! You get to remember the book and life events - so much fun!! 5y

In Episode 6 of my podcast (out today!), my guest — who I‘ve known since high school IRL — and I break down the gossip, the love interests, the teenage angst, and the impact (good and bad!) of frank discussions of sex and drugs (but not rock and roll). Check out the link in my bio or search The SSR Podcast in iTunes or Google Play to listen! 💋🎧

I still love it after re-reading it! Its a real witty chic-lit story. Jessica Darling is a not so darling protagonist that you will easily fall in love with. It's easy to read, exciting and filling. It made me laugh, smile and fall in love. But beware, the ending will leave you hanging! You would definitely ask for SECOND HELPINGS! :)

Has anyone read these? I randomly found them in a storage bin with old photos when I moved and have no recollection of buying or receiving them. I hope I didn't borrow them from someone 😬 In any case, I think they #smellsliketeenspirit #junetunz

This section is #highschool realness.
Doing a reread of the #JessicaDarling series to inspire me in my own writing, which I hope will be this meets Rainbow Rowell. My bestie has confirmed the latter, so I need more of the sass that Ms. Darling (and author Megan McCafferty through her) conveys.

Haven't been able to finish a book in over a month! I was long overdue for a reread of this book. Jessica reminds me so much of my high school self. I even did a project in my 10th grade English class with this title (my teacher didn't love it either).

Sometimes Rioter @alholstrom has to gush about her favorite books of all time. Because look at those spines. Jess Darling is snarky and her bff moved away and now she has to endure high school all alone. Her journals are hilarious and smart and witty and pretty true to high school times. A+.
