I like this series a lot. This is a quick read and very compelling. Still s lot left open in this book and looking for more answers. I chose this for my #muslimauthor prompt for #booked2019 and really enjoyed it and this series.

Unravel Me is EVERYTHING I could have wanted in a sequel. Mafi‘s writing style is so beautifully unique. Her prose is quite lyrical, almost poetic in a way, and her story building and character development are captivating and fresh. I love the many layers to each character, and love the conflict and confusion that wreaks havoc on my emotions as I peel each layer away. Shifted between book and audio. Kate Simses narration is absolutely fabulous.

God, I just loved this so much! Loved the characters, the setting, how the story turned and twisted... but I loved the way the whole book is written the most, the inner thoughts of Juliette and Warner (who I love so much together). The development of the characters is beautifully written, so believable and relatable. And the ending is just heartbreaking and exciting at the same time.

It's so much harder now. So much harder to resign myself to an existence of ice and emptiness now that I've known heat, urgency, tenderness and passion; the extraordinary comfort of being able to touch another being.
It's humiliating.

Wow, can someone say “the plot thickens?” Cause like, it did. A lot. At first I found Juliette really annoying, and like all the progress she had made in the first book had just been undone, but then **stuff happened** and I was floored. Like everything just got so much more intense and layered. And like—THAT ENDING. Phenomenal sequel.

AAAHHHH 🙌🏻 This one definitely doesn‘t suffer from middle book syndrome. The plot is fast-paced with plenty going on with Omega Point and The Reestablishment, who are the bad guys in power. Juliette comes to realize her power even more and is a little more confident, albeit still a little whiny. Just a little! The love triangle is on point. YA-style. Both Adam and Warner seem like good options in this installment and I like them BOTH.

sammisho Everyone hates love triangles but I am all about a good YA love triangle! 10mo

I‘m a little over halfway thru this book (Shatter Me #2) and IT‘S SO GOOD! I can‘t get over how much I love this reread!! I‘ve read/listened multiple times and I‘ve NEVER enjoyed them so much 🙌🏻

🎧 Also these audios are great. The narrator really nails Juliette, how she is “weak” and small-sounding at the beginning of the series because she is in an asylum, then gradually sounds more assertive, gets louder, and sounds more confident by the end.

This book was well written and had me intrigued and sucked in, just like her last ones. I want her with Warner sooo bad! I feel like they need each other. He needs to show her it's okay to be bad sometimes, and she needs to show him how to be more human. But I only could give this book 4 stars because I like a strong female lead and this whole book she was mopey and sad and always needed someone else to help her, and I didnt like that.

Mafi‘s prose continues to be beautiful, unique, and gripping, but it doesn‘t make up for what the series lacks. In the first book, most use of the word “crazy” was the MC convincing herself that she isn‘t. Here it‘s used liberally to mean stupid or uncomfortable or dangerous. Mafi‘s grasp of language should allow for vocabulary that doesn‘t further existing stigma against mental illness, and it comes off as lazy besides. More in comments:

kgriffith There are reductive notions about romantic love, and also codependent-leaning angst. I know those are typical of YA, but our youth have more agency & autonomy than the folks writing for them likely did, and deserve more dynamic representation. It‘s also hyper-hetero, and non-monog rship structures are clearly verboten. It‘s cool if that‘s the world you‘re actively writing, but these societal expectations shouldn‘t be the default anymore. 1y
kgriffith In conclusion, I‘m bailing on the series, but hope her writing evolves to be more cognizant of communities she may be alienating, and look forward to more installments from the world of (edited) 1y

I started this series loving Adam and hating Warner. Now here I am in second book and im feeling an attachment to.Warner. He is not a bad person he is just a miss understood young man who did bad things but being with juliette has shown his human side. The relationship between Adam and Juliette is messy, painful and complicated. But the relationship between Warner and her is simple, easy and painless.
