What We Buried | Kate A. Boorman
6 posts | 7 read | 16 to read
Fans of We Were Liars and One of Us Is Lying will be immediately drawn in to the thrilling psychological puzzle at the heart of The Remains .Sixteen-year-old Liv Brewer - former child-pageant queen and reality-show star - is suing her parents for ruining her life. Her older brother, Jory, who has lived his whole life in her shadow, believes he is once again being forced to bear witness to another of Liv's self-involved tantrums. But then their parents disappear on the day of the trial, and past grievances must be put aside. Driven by the need for answers, Liv and Jory are forced to work together to find their missing parents. Their road trip goes from the expected to the surreal, and the siblings are forced to confront a whole host of dangerous obstacles - as well as their pasts and perceptions about each other. Brilliantly told from the split perspectives of Liv and Jory , The Remains builds into a fascinating psychological mystery about family, memory, and time that every young adult reader will be begging to figure out.

I don't even know what I just listened to...

This is a badass cover. I needed to read this just because of that alone. Dual unreliable narrators on the weirdest road trip filled with flashbacks and WTF just happened with an unpredictably predictable ending.

It'd make one helluva movie though

Quiet frankly, I‘m not sure as to what I just read. The wording is nice, however it lacks a huge moment of realization that most mysteries contain. The plot is somewhat back and forth, as if the author wasn‘t quite sure what the ending would be as they were writing and decided against going back to revise. Despite this, I would recommend to anyone who loves mysteries, as it really keeps you guessing all throughout the book, and after.

Sooo...the rave reviews about this one made me buy it. I have no idea what I just read. Vibes: King‘s Sorry, Right Number ~ Fletcher‘s The Hitchhiker ~ possibly Lockhart‘s We Were Liars. However, unlike those stories, this one lacked the bang of realization. Rather than being left with a holy s$!@ feeling, goosebumps, or a general sense of unease, I was left with mostly confusion. If you‘ve read it let me know!
