Love as Always, Mum xxx
Love as Always, Mum xxx: The true and terrible story of surviving a childhood with Fred and Rose West | Mae West
5 posts | 3 read | 1 reading | 5 to read
'A CHILLING new memoir by the daughter of mass murderer Fred West and his wife Rose describes the savage cruelty of her upbringing in 25 Cromwell Street, Gloucester' DAILY MAIL 'Mae, I mean this ... I'm not a good person and I let all you children down ...' Rose West, HM PRISON DURHAM It has taken over 20 years for Mae West to find the perspective and strength to tell her remarkable story: one of an abusive, violent childhood, of her serial killer parents and how she has rebuilt her life in the shadow of their terrible crimes. Through her own memories, research and the letters her mother wrote to her from prison, Mae shares her emotionally powerful account of her life as a West. From a toddler locked in the deathly basement to a teen fighting off the sexual advances of her father, Mae's story is one of survival. It also answers the questions: how do you come to terms with knowing your childhood bedroom was a graveyard? How do you accept the fact your parents sexually tortured, murdered and dismembered young women? How do you become a mother yourself when you're haunted by the knowledge that your own mother was a monster? Why were you spared and how do you escape the nightmare?

#currentlyreading this book.
It's not a good subject to read about but I am always interested in everyone's side of things.
From what I have read so far Mae is defending her mother and blaming everything on her dad, that's making me angry they both took park in everything! #librarybook #readingthelibrary #fredandrosewest #truecrime #murder #reading #books ☠️💀📚🔪

RachelO Wow, that sounds like a difficult read. 3d

Fred West became the most notorious #criminal from my adopted home town of Gloucester in the early 90s, when, along with his wife Rosemary, he was investigated for and charged with the murders of several young women, including his own daughter. Part of me wants to read this memoir from their daughter Mae. A bigger part of me just can‘t bring myself to!

Cinfhen It‘s always more difficult to read these types of stories when you feel a bit of a “connection”. I‘m sure it‘s a fascinating story. 4mo
KarenUK This sounds like a brutal read... 4mo
Clutterbucks_Queen I finished this the other day, it opened my eyes to things i didn't even know had happened, but it's the sort of book that makes you want to shake your head in disgust and sadness.. 4mo

I don't think this is a book i could bring myself to read again as it is so heartbreaking, but ot was interesting to find out more about the Wests crimes.

R.I.P to all of 11 victims and to the two unborn children and baby that were also murdered 😞

That's all i feel able to say to be honest..

readingjedi This sounds like one of those books I want to read but don't want to read at the same time. I remember this being in the news & the horrors just kept coming & coming ... 😢 4mo
Clutterbucks_Queen The only thing about this book that annoyed me slightly was they didn't regard as victims the full term babies that got killed while the mothers were at the end of their pregnancies with them. 4mo
Clutterbucks_Queen It is really sad, and quite sickening tbh. There is a lot of sexual abuse that went on from parents to children that is horrific 4mo

I have read up to chapter 6 and so far this book has done nothing but disgust me and make me want to shake the nasty images formed from my head away...
I knew the basics of Fred and Rosemary Wests crimes from watching several documentaries on what they done, but what those poor children, and Mae in particular in regards to this book, went through is so heartbreaking and worse than i could ever have imagined! 😞

Extremely compelling memoir from Mae West, the daughter of Fred and Rose West. Although there‘s not a lot of background on the crimes beforehand so I recommend reading about the crimes first so you have that knowledge going into it. I‘ll tag a book in the comments that I liked for this purpose!

kathedron I pass the end of Cromwell Street on the way to the main library. 😱 1y
Reviewsbylola Lolol they named their daughter Mae West?! 😂 I know a bit about this crime. So horrible. 1y
Clutterbucks_Queen It was originally just May West but she changed the spelling herself to Mae 4mo
