With Love from the Inside
With Love from the Inside | Angela Pisel
58 posts | 34 read | 111 to read
Angela Pisel's poignant debut explores the complex relationship between a mother and a daughter, and their quest to discover the truth and whether or not love can prevail--even from behind bars. Grace Bradshaw knows the exact minute she will die. On death row for murdering her infant son, her last breath will be taken on February 15 at 12:01 a.m. Eleven years, five months, and twenty-seven days separate her from the last time she heard her precious daughter's voice and the final moment she'd heard anyone call her Mom. Out of appeals, she can focus on only one thing--reconnecting with her daughter and making sure she knows the truth. Secrets lurk behind Sophie Logan's big house and even bigger bank account. Every day when she kisses her husband good-bye, she worries her fabricated life is about to come crumbling down. No one knows the unforgivable things her mother did to tear her family apart--not her husband, who is a prominent plastic surgeon, or her "synthetic" friends who live in her upscale neighborhood. Grace's looming execution date forces Sophie to revisit the traumatic events that haunted her childhood. When she returns to her hometown, she discovers new evidence about her baby brother William's death seventeen years ago--proof that might set her mother free but shatter her marriage forever. Sophie must quickly decide if her mother is the monster the prosecutor made her out to be or the loving mother she remembers--the one who painted her toenails glittery pink and plastered Post-it notes with inspiring quotes ("100 percent failure rate if you don't try") all over Sophie's bathroom mirror--before their time runs out.

Grace is 49, in prison on death row, for a crime she did not commit (as far as we know). She‘s writing a journal for her daughter, who disappeared after Mom was convicted. When execution nears, events transpire that will shake up everyone directly or indirectly involved. Captivating and suspenseful

A harrowing story about the relationship between a mum on death row and her daughter, who tries to maintain a life full of secrets.
Despite the heavy going subject of the book, I found this a very easy story to read and I was in floods of tears by the end. I felt so emotionally invested! This is the author‘s only book - I really hope she writes more!

If you are a fan of Jodi Picoult, then you will probably love this book as much as I did. Many ethical questions are portrayed and it leaves you questioning so many things. It‘s not only a story about the death sentence, but a mother daughter story and a story about relationships. I highly recommend this one!

3.5 stars/5. This is a moving and sad story about a relationship between a mother and a daughter. The mother is convicted of murdering of her infant son and is on death row. I almost gave up on this one because it was so slow at first but it finally got interesting about 2/3 in and earned its stars.

What a story. Makes you wonder how many Graces there were in death row. It definitely tugged at my heartstrings. Keep the tissue close by with this one.

Really liked the premise- and even more reason to not support the death penalty.

Surprised how much I liked it. The writing wasn't anything special but it was clear, and the more I listened, the more the characters grew on me. The story also becomes sweeter with time which I don't typically enjoy, but I needed just this amount mother-daughter trauma/drama. Grace is in jail for allegedly killing her other child as an infant and Sophie has hidden her mother's true location for 12 years. And then Grace's execution date is set.

Getting some MUCH-NEEDED therapy time with Mr. Jackson. Glad to have a reason to get out of my apartment today to spend a few hours with this sweet boy.

I also might just squeeze in one more book (listening to the tagged book on audio) before month's end. #audiowalk

Well that didn't end the way I expected it to!
I probably wouldn't have listened to this audiobook if it hadn't been a daily deal, but the cover caught my eye (I love marigolds ) so I picked it up.
A look at complicated relationships, between spouses, parents and kids, I'd give this 4 of 5 ⭐️

"...scars heal scars." This is going to be on my best reads of the year list. It's a powerful look at the complexities of relationships & capital punishment. I ugly cried through the last half of the book. In some ways it made me think of To Kill a Mockingbird - you never really understand a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.

Kris10 I'm so happy to see this review. I bought this as a daily deal from audible awhile back but forgot about it. I'll have to start it next! 8y

Kind of romanticized view of the death penalty. Good arguments against it, in a fiction format. Grace is aptly named.

5 stars!! Phenomenal!! This is my first playaway and the first time I've listened to a fiction book! If the death penalty is a trigger warning for you then maybe avoid it. If not, then this will be a wonderful, emotional ride. Throughout the plot there may be a couple cliche moments, however the ending & character developments more than make up for them. The narrators did a great job reading the work! I'll have a more detailed review on Goodreads.
