4 1/2 ?. Two things prevent this from being 5 ?, the first being that Ottilia is too "perfect" (she doesn't seem to have many flaws), and there's no link between the title and plot.

Second book for April's #roll100 @PuddleJumper

DNF. Absolutely hated the FMC, who was sleuthing out a murderer and telling the victim's family that she was enjoying herself in the process. The murderer was obvious in the first few pages, but in the meantime, I had to read the thousand ways the FMC was so very clever. I hate quitting a book, but she was so irritating.

Set in 1789, this was a well-written, entertaining murder mystery with a little romance thrown in. The beginning of a series, it features a curious and highly intelligent young widow who joins an aristocratic family to serve as a lady‘s companion only to become the lead detective in a murder investigation. Perhaps a bit too long, but still a delightful surprise. Second one is out next month. 4/5⭐️
Thanks to #NetGalley and #Sapere for the ARC!
