2 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
Fifteen-year-old Will Drake has made a career of breaking out from high-security prisons. His talents have landed him at the Rig, a special juvenile holding facility in the middle of the Arctic Ocean. No one can escape from the Rig. After hatching some escape plans—and making the first real friends of his life—Drake quickly realizes that all is not as it seems on the Rig. The warden is obsessed with the mysterious Crystal-X, a blue glowing substance that appears to give superpowers to the teens exposed to it. Drake, Tristan, and Irene are banking on a bid for freedom—but can they survive long enough to make it?

Mehso-so

Interesting concept. This was actually similar to a novel idea that I had as a teen, which was really a trip reading it in someone else‘s words. I wanted to like it more than I did. For a maximum security prison, the main character has a lot of free range on the rig. The action sequences were a little disjointed, especially toward the end. #bookspinbingo #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks

Pickpick

Properly classified as YA, this book is the story of a boy who has a knack of escaping out of locked facilities, a hellish prison built on an old oil rig, an unlikely friendship, and a dreadful, shocking secret. With plenty of action, touching moments, and fantastic character development, this is a gem of a novel that I am glad to have added to my collection. #recentlyread #nospoilers #sciencefiction #youngadult #carpediem 🖤
